You wouldn’t think that new babies can have acne, but they can. There is something called baby acne. If your baby has baby acne, don’t worry – it’s not usually dangerous. Here is what causes baby acne, and what you can do to treat it.

Acne vulgaris is caused by overproduction of oil by the sebaceous glands. The extra oil clogs pores in the hair follicles, and traps bacteria. Breakouts result.

Another likely contributor to baby acne is hormones. Hormones are passed from mother to baby at birth. As a result new babies have elevated hormone levels, which prompts the sebaceous glands into overproduction.

Baby temperament also affects acne. Babies’ breakouts get worse when they are upset or irate. Skin irritation can also make the situation worse. Make sure to clean all milk and food off of the face, and to use gentle or even hypoallergenic soaps and laundry detergents to avoid irritation from soap.

Most cases of baby acne occur when the baby is between 4 weeks old and 4 months old. More boys than girls develop the condition. If you suspect your baby has baby acne, check the face (cheeks, forehead, chin) and even back, these are common locations for the breakouts to show up.

There are other skin conditions that babies may develop as well. Because of this, you should always have a new eruption checked by a physician. A qualified professional can tell the difference between acne and an allergic reaction, and can recommend the best course for treatment.

If your baby has acne-like bumps at birth, chances are they aren’t breakouts. Some babies are just born with bumps that aren’t a skin condition. These bumps should disappear within a month or so.

Your baby may also have eczema, if she is breaking out in rashes regularly. Take her to your doctor, because your doctor can accurately identify this disorder and advise you how best to treat it.

Aside from baby advice, the writer additionally frequently shares knowledge regarding auto bumper repair and auto dent repairs.
