How do you bathe your baby?
Question by cyn: How do you bathe your baby?
My baby is 5 months old and I am still trying to “master” bathing him. I have a summer infant baby bathtub which doesn’t fit in my sink. I used it in my bathtub which was killer on my back as well as hard to fill up, hard to keep my hands on him and soap him from the other side of the tub. I got in my tub, but there was no room for me with the baby tub in there. I tried it on a counter and it leaked, which was a huge mess (maybe poor design). I need something back friendly – I was thinking of those bucket style tubs which may fit in a sink, may be higher than the other tubs. I realize that would be hard to reach lower parts for a good washing, but might be good for just a warm soak. Any favorite tubs, or any bathing suggestions anyone would want to share?

I bath my daughter in the kitchen sink! Or in the tub with me. She is 5 months old, but sits unassisted. She loves it and so do I!

I use 4mom cleanwater tub to bathe my 6 month old daughter.
You can have a look at it here at amazon: 4moms Cleanwater Infant Bath Tub with Digital Thermometer
I really like it and so does my daughter. It fits in my kitchen sink as bending kills my back too. It has a digital thermometer that tells you if the water is too hot or too cold.
It’s really hard when they aren’t sitting up and supporting themselves. What I used to do was fill the tub halfway and bathe my son in it on the kitchen counter. It was much easier standing up. I would support him with my left hand and use my right hand to clean him. I’d have the towels laid out on the counter so when I was done I’d just take him out and lay him on the towel. Wrap him up and bring him to his room to dress him. Once he was sitting up on his own it was easier because I could washing him using 2 hands, but eventually he just became too active to bathe him on the counter. He would splash and make a mess everywhere. At that point I had to bathe him in his tub in the bathtub. It kills my back but it’s not as bad as having to bend over, support him with one hand and wash him with the other.
Get a baby bath hammock, they’re about the same price as a cheap baby bath tub, and you can bath him in the kitchen sink until he is developed enough to sit up on his own. When he is sitting up on his own, transition him to the big tub and bath with him.
We transitioned our son to the big tub at five months, we did it the bath after the first time he tried to climb out of his infant tub!
Can you just hop in the regular tub with him? It really does make bath time a whole lot easier and more enjoyable.
Another option you have is to sponge bathe him for a few weeks until he can sit strong with your support, then just bathe him in the regular tub. Really, babies get dirty, but not ridiculously so that they need immersion baths all of the time. You can fill a bowl with warm water, add his baby wash, lay him on a soft blanket and wash him with a wash cloth; he’ll still get clean that way. Once he can sit strongly with your hand helping, you can try him out in a couple of inches of water in the regular tub.
Im a big fan of the good old kitchen sink. No mess no fuss.
I just have a cheap baby bath tub. I use it in the bathtub and yeah it does hurt my back but the bath usually doesn’t last very long. Also occasionally I take a bath with her which is kind of easier but more slippery (so be careful if you do that).
I sit my baby on one of the mesh net thingys in the big bathtub! Works great for us!
