The Quiet Book
by indrarado

Question by freakykittygoddess: Ideas for a girl’s quiet book???
Ideas for a girl’s quiet book???
I am making a quiet book for my niece for Christmas and am trying to come up with a few more ideas. I want this to be pretty and girly. She will be 8 months when Christmas rolls around, so I don’t want anything too much for her. Any suggestions would be great.

A quiet book is a fabric book with different cloth pages. Each page has something different to button, zip, snap, velcro and felt items, etc. An example of a page in a quiet book would be an ocean page with different fish to velcro to the page so the baby can pull it off and put it back on in a different spot.

How about ballet slippers to lace, a hat with a fluffy pink feather, a teapot and cups to Velcro on, a jeweled hand mirror that reflects her face, a girls head with yarn hair to put Barret’s on, a baby in a bunter to zip up, and big flowers each with petals made from different fabrics, some fuzzy, some silky, etc.
Hope this gives you some ideas…it has me! Thanks for the idea! I think I will make one for my baby girl who will be 6 mo this Christmas.

Question by babe: Has anyone read the story Make Way for Ducklings?
Why do you think this book has endured as a favorite for over 50 years?

Best answer:

Answer by Angelia
I haven’t read it since I was a little kid, but I remember thinking it was an awesome book. As a kid, I thought it was cool to read about a family of ducks. I seem to recall that the pictures were pretty cool too :)

Where the Wild Things Are [Blu-ray] Reviews

Where the Wild Things Are [Blu-ray]

“Let the wild rumpus start!” Nine-year-old Max runs away from home and sails across the sea to become king of the land Where the Wild Things Are. King Max rules a wondrous realm of gigantic fuzzy monsters–but being king may not be as carefree as it looks! Filmmaker Spike Jonze directs a magical, visually astonishing film version of Maurice Sendak’s celebrated children’s classic, starring an amazing cast of screen veterans and featuring young Max Records in a fierce and sensitive performance as Max. Explore the joyous, complicated and wildly imaginative wild rumpus of the time and place we call childhood.Through his handcrafted ode to the trials of childhood, Spike Jonze puts his own unique imprint on Maurice Sendak’s enduring classic. In the prologue, 9-year-old Max (Max Records) stomps around the house, feeling neglected. When his mom (Catherine Keener) sends him to bed without supper, Max runs away (something he doesn’t do in the book). He finds a boat and sails to a distant land where fuzzy monsters are raising a rumpus in the forest. Since his wolf suit allows him to fit right in, he joins the fray, catching the eye of Carol (James Gandolfini, excellent), who notes, approvingly, “I like the way you destroy stuff. There’s a spark to your work that can’t be taught.” With that, they pronounce the diminutive creature king, hoping he can bring cohesion to their fractured family. After Max comes across Carol’s scale-model town, he decides they should build a real one, but the project stalls as Alexander (Paul Dano) and Douglas (Chris Cooper) mope, Judith (Catherine O’Hara) browbeats Ira (Forest Whitaker), and Carol pines for K.W. (Lauren Ambrose), who prefers the company of owls Bob and Terry. Max realizes he has to make a choice: stay with the wild things or return home, where he has to keep his aggressive impulses in check. For readers of Sendak’s slim tome, his decision won’t come as a surprise, but Jonze ends the story on a lovely grace note. Until that time, the squabbling is a bit much–these monsters never stop talking–but Jonze, cowriter Dave Eggers, the Jim Henson Company, and singer/songwriter Karen O. have gone all-out to re-create the inner world of a child with as much empathy as was mustered for the inner adult world of Jonze’s Being John Malkovich. –Kathleen C. Fennessy

Book Description

Maurice Sendak′s classic book Where the Wild Things Are follows the adventures of Max, a headstrong young boy who leaves home after having a fight with his mother, only to find himself in a mysterious forest bordering a vast sea. Misunderstood and rebellious, Max sets sail to the land of the Wild Things, where mischief reigns. But how do you turn one of the world′s favorite children′s books into a movie?

This film incorporates the most dynamic elements of voice performance, live-action puppetry, and computer animation into a live-action adventure story that captures the magic of the book-and takes it to a new dimension. In order to preserve the realistic nature of the film, the Wild Things are not created digitally. Instead, Spike Jonze brings these characters to life in the form of physical suits built by the Jim Henson Company. These creatures, operated by a suit performer, interact with the live actor playing Max on set in front of the camera. After principal photography is finished, CGI is being used to make the creatures completely lifelike and convincing.

HEADS ON AND WE SHOOT unveils the unique collaboration behind this highly anticipated film-the combined work of Maurice Sendak, Spike Jonze, Dave Eggers, and all the cast and crew. The book design is heavily image-based, a mix of early sketches, storyboards, character designs, and extensive behind-the-scenes photographs that show both incredible live-action puppetry and computer animation. The text includes forewords by Jonze and Eggers, interviews with the cast and crew, stories from on and off the set, and early drafts of the screenplay. The resulting book will be simultaneously a beautiful object for collectors, an insider′s guide for devotees, and an intimate window into the creative process.

It’s my 5 year old’s lifelong dream to bathe in a tub full of tomato juice?

August 27, 2010 by BabyCare

Question by dingelbury: It’s my 5 year old’s lifelong dream to bathe in a tub full of tomato juice?
Ever since I read Curious George Goes Camping to him, it’s all he talks about.

I’m really poor and if I have to buy 31 billion cans of tomato juice, I won’t be able to buy any Snack Packs and then I won’t have any reason to live.

Is there someone or some agency like Dreams Come True that helps perfectly healthy and slightly weird children fulfill their wishes?

In case you aren’t familiar with Curious George Goes Camping, for some reason, Curious George is being annoying, as usual, and he pulls what he thinks is a cat’s tail but it’s actually a skunk’s tail. When the always irresponsible man with the yellow hat FINALLY realizes his pet monkey is missing, he searches for him. When he finds him, he notices that George smells like hot garbage and he gives him a tomato juice bath. The end.

Thanks for reading every single word of that and not just skimming through it for key words. You’re the best!
