Furnishing Your Kid’s Bedroom

Finding suitable furniture for children can be a complex task. It is more difficult than selecting furniture for the rest of you house, because you also have to please the one who will actually use the furniture – your child. Following are some suggestions to help you choose furnishings for your child’s room.

First of all, a child’s room is not very large. So when you’re picking out furniture, consider pieces that can serve a dual purpose most of the time. Consider headboards that might double as a bookcase, or even storage chests that could double as stairs. Toy chests can serve as storage as well as excellent seats, as well. Bunk beds are a terrific option when you have two children who share a room, or for friends to sleep over. Trundle beds are also a great idea because you can slide the second bed back underneath the main bed, which creates a lot more room for your child to play.

You always want to make sure you look for furniture that’s made well and is sturdy. Children are known to be a bit rough on furniture, so you’ll want to choose pieces that can stand up to a lot of wear and tear. Be sure to check the obvious safety hazards, like making sure the bunk bed safety rails are tight, and that the ladder is well built and secured properly to the bed.

Once you have decided on the necessary furniture, and found a source of safe and sturdy furnishings, then you and your child need to agree on the preferred style. Decide beforehand how long you will be keeping the furniture. Children can quickly grow too large for small furniture. And their tastes can alter considerably as they grow older – especially as they approach the teen years. To avoid having to change furniture repeatedly, bypass furnishings that are obviously intended for young children and will be quickly outgrown.

If you would like to have your child’s room continue the style of the rest of the rooms, there are manufacturers that modified versions of their adult furniture placed in a children’s department. You can also decorate your child’s room with all styles of colorful bedding, pillows, rugs, and toys that both of you love.

Don’t Short Your Baby on Car Seat Protection

February 22, 2010 by Frank Froggatt

Parents go out of their way to choose the fitting car seat for their baby. They go completely out of their way to make sure that the little precious passenger they are bringing along is sufficiently protected. Yet currently , the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that, according to a multi-year study, misuse occurred in 3 quarters of the baby safety seats inspected.

The results of this study conclude that 3 of 4 parents put their children at risk while in vehicles unknowingly because they do not use the restraints properly. The most common mistakes found were loose harness straps and safety belt attachments. These seemingly innocent mistakes are viewed to be the most critical of mistakes because they can result in the worst injuries.

So how am I to know when my kid is safe or not?

First, make sure you are using the suitable seat – in the best position — for your baby’s age and weight. Most infant seats can be used in the rear-facing position for children under one year of age who have not yet reached 20 pounds.

For babies that are younger and smaller there are infant only seats that are designed especially for them and are a exceptionally good choice for newborn babies. They offer a good fit and are conveniently small and portable. These infant car seats should only be installed facing the rear of the vehicle and located in the back seat as with all car seats.

If you fancy a seat that will hold your baby as he grows, a convertible seat is another option. These are much bigger and heavier than a regular newborn car seat so they can be used as your kid ages and gets bigger. As with regular infant car seats, these convertible car seats are still to be used in the rear facing position for any child under 20 pounds and under a year old. After your baby reaches 20 pounds and it is their first birthday you can feel safe to turn the car seat around to face the front position. Most convertible seats accommodate children up to 40 pounds.

Proper use of a child’s car seat is an absolute necessity no matter which style you choose. If your car is newer then chances are it will have instructions for car seat installation so you need to pay attention to this as well as the manufacturers instructions on the seat. To be effective, your child’s seat must be buckled into the seat correctly, and the seat must be correctly buckled into your car.

Harness straps seem to be an area of particular difficulty for parents. In order for your kid to be safe, the harness needs to be fitted snugly to your babies chest and in the right slot position. The straps should be in the slots at or below your baby’s shoulders for most infant seats and at or above baby’s shoulders for more convertible seats. That clip that holds the two straps together should be around armpit level and the straps should not be twisted at all. You should always check the owner’s manual to confirm correct placement.

The use of safety belts is also a problem area. Be sure the seat belt follows the appropriate path for the position of the seat and recline the seat at about a 45-degree angle, if possible. A rolled towel under the base helps secure the seat into position. Tighten the seat belt, as needed, to ensure the restraint is secured to your vehicle. If your automobile has a LATCH system, use it according to the specifications of your baby’s seat and those of the vehicle owner’s manual.

Other important seat considerations include seat age and condition. If the car seat that you have isn’t something you purchased brand-new, you can find out the age by looking at the label. Don’t trust the safety of your child in a seat that is more than five years old and doesn’t have any manufacturers instructions along with it. It is critical that all the parts are there and that you know if the seat has been in any accidents. Don’t take a chance on anything you are unsure of.

Another extremely good idea is that if you are unsure about anything make sure that you take the seat to a safety seat technician and have it checked.Your baby’s life may depend on it.

There are many sites on the net to buy car seats for sale. If you are seeking convertible car seats then you will do very well on getting a good price by going to http://babystrollersandcarseats.net/convertible-car-seats.php

It is only when your baby starts to exhibit signs that they will soon be walking, that you should select their first pair of shoes. Those tiny feet are best left unrestricted by shoes, until your child starts to pull themselves up in preparation for their first steps. In your child’s earliest month’s try to resist the urge to dress your baby up in a tiny pair of shoes, as allowing their feet to grow naturally is truly best.

As your baby prepares to take their first steps, you will want to consider a pair of shoes that will give them some added protection. It is important to ensure that they have the necessary traction for slippery surfaces, so socks alone are not appropriate. You will want to make sure that your child does not slip, but you also want to make sure that the shoe bends easily, so shoes with soft leather or rubber soles will be most effective.

Typically, kids shoes need replacement far more often than adults because a child’s feet are very quick to grow. Making sure that you have properly fitted shoes for your child is important. Tight shoes or shoes that don’t properly fit can be problematic for your child’s tender feet.

Pay close attention to the way the shoe closes as well. If you want small children to learn to dress themselves, non-lacing shoes are often the best. Velcro is a popular closure used on children’s shoes for ease of dress and parenting sanity.

Sandals are important for hot weather. Sandals allow the feet to stay cool hence the children will too.

For the beach or the pool, children’s sandals are ideal. Because of the water resistant composition of sandals it is very easy to clean and care for them.

Whether looking local or online, there is a wide range of shoes out there. Kids shoes come in a multitude of colors and patterns for anyone. They even come with popular cartoon characters, lights and charms.

When you are on the lookout for See Kai Run sandals be sure to visit Joan’s new site. Joan has also made available information on finding good kids pop up tent.
