Sleep Like A Baby

Listening to my two girlfriends talking both about their daughters who “will not sleep” and seeing how those moms could also need a break tosses me back to the days that my little ones had the hardest times sleeping through the night. Apart from illness, when you simply can expect to NOT sleep at night because you have to tend to your infant, you may find that there are some simple issues, when removed or dealt with, are actually hindering your baby from sleeping.

Here are a few articles around the web which I find to be helpful, each in it’s own right, to understanding what could be causing your wee one trouble finding a peaceful slumber.

So there you have it… um. You know, you need to find your own pace. Main thing: if you have a good understanding of your baby and her needs, you know these are met and your baby is healthy, then you need to find your comfort zone which can lead to “ferberize” or “co-sleeping” and pretty much anything in between. Rule of thumb: if you are comfortable, relaxed and feel comfortable in your role as a parent, your baby will be more at ease and you will find your way together.

My Newborn Baby Is Not Sleeping Peacefully

Peacefully sleeping baby
Did you know that the amount of time a baby spends napping during the day affects his sleep patterns during the night? In the event that your child naps at a late time of day, it reduce its ability to sleep well at night for sure.

If you are getting up consistently every night in order to soothe your baby, then it’s time for you to consider resetting your child’s natural pattern.

On the other hand you will have to also monitor your baby’s nap cycles during the day. If he starts looking tired, have your child take a nap before he gets much too tired and is unable to sleep well later on.

You can easily tell by just looking to see if the child is fussy, annoyed, quiet and has no interest in its environment. Keep your eye on your infant as much as possible and don’t delay when you see those symptoms. Let these clues guide you in setting a normal nap schedule for your newborn baby.

Why the big rush? If your baby doesn’t go to sleep when it needs to, it might just stop feeling sleepy after a while – as adults we experience this too. They go into the second stage of alertness and will feel even more tired at a later stage.

For you to rearrange your infant’s time of sleep will not take as long as you think. Your little one is more adaptable than you might realize. Just attempt the routine on a consistent basis and before you know it, you will not have to wake up regularly every night to put your child back to sleep.

Even if you do everything right, things might not always go according to plan. There will be times where nap times are not possible (like when you take your baby out to the shopping mall for example). That is fine, just don’t do it too consistently or a new habit might form.

Continue routinely with the same course of action even if you do get a few days of interruption to your little one’s nap times. Most infants will quickly get used to repetition, so you don’t have to worry about a family outing ruining all your hard work.

Buying a CD with soothing music might help accelerate sleep so you can try that along with any other methods. There are books available that show you easy methods to get your baby to sleep easy, so I suggest you get a copy and educate yourself. When you have tuned in well enough to your baby’s needs, you will have a much easier time with parenting and maybe, just maybe, the both of you will finally get a solid night’s rest.
