Tips For Mothers On How To Increase Milk Supply

Just about every breastfeeding mother will have a period of worrying about whether her milk supply is sufficient to meet her infant’s needs. Now, some mothers have reason to worry and aren’t producing enough milk for their babies. This is actually very rare, according to many experts.

Many women who think their milk supply is low are simply incorrect about that. They may think this because of some of the previous symptoms of fullness disappearing. Maybe their milk stops leaking, or they don’t have a feeling of fullness in the breasts any more.

There are other causes for a lack of feeling of fullness, however. One major thing to remember is that babies have growth spurts. When they have these growth spurts, they often eat more than normal. Because of this, the mother’s breasts will not fill to extreme fullness while the babies are eating that much.

Causes of reduced production: Your milk supply may diminish temporarily for several reasons. One common cause is not feeding the baby frequently enough. This is often due to pain in the nipples while nursing, or to a poor latch technique by the baby. Illness can also make a woman’s milk supply dip, as can taking birth control pills with estrogen in them.

How to fix the situation. First, you need to determine that your baby is getting enough food. Make sure your baby is feeding frequently. Your next step is to check with your doctor to see if there are problems with your nipples or milk ducts. Your doctor can run all of the necessary tests to ensure that any complications or issues are diagnosed and properly treated.

This is especially critical if your baby stops gaining weight, or even starts losing weight. If that occurs, contact your doctor right away. If you are not imagining the drop in milk but are actually experiencing a drop in production, it can affect your baby.

Generally, you’ll get instructions for better breast feeding technique and this will help a lot. In some cases there will be bigger problems, as indicated by baby’s weight fluctuations.

Generally, even if you do have a drop in milk supply you can still nurse. Frequent breast feeding will actually remedy the problem most of the time.

Pregnancy Insights – Are You Actually Expecting A Baby Or Have You Been Perhaps Mistaken?

June 4, 2010 by Kenny Johnson

With many of the physical conditions and symptoms of pregnancy present, and a strong belief she is actually pregnant, a woman of childbearing age may experience the strange phenomenon of pseudocyesis, more commonly called pseudo-pregnancy.

The woman may experience such pregnancy symptoms as morning sickness, tender breasts, and the cessation of her period, and may even see her abdomen widen in the case of a false pregnancy.

It is easy to not keep proper track of your menstrual cycles and believe you have missed a period when you haven’t, but in this condition a missed period is often the first and most common symptom. Other influences which might bring on a false pregnancy are an actual fear of getting pregnant or a strong desire to become pregnant, both of which can bring on stress.

When the breasts become tender to the touch, you could be getting your period; however, a female with psuedocyesis is going to think this discomfort is due to being pregnant. Nausea and vomiting are typically the result of hormones being out of balance, which can also lead to your period being late, but mostly, they are indicative of the first trimester of pregnancy.

Certain females who go through a pseudo-pregnancy, might even see their stomach region get bigger. However, this increase in size is probably a result of eating too much because she thinks she is pregnant, of retaining excess water in advance of a period, or the accumulation of gas because of extreme anxiousness and stress.

Pseudocyesis happens most often to females who have miscarried or have had a child die. Older females in their 30’s and 40’s are more typically the victims of pseudo-pregnancies because they are not conceiving as they wish, or they are experiencing issues with infertility. Researchers believe that emotional trauma is usually the main cause of pseudo-pregnancies.

The hormonal balance is directly affected when a woman has an overwhelming desire to become pregnant or a consuming fear of becoming pregnant. The stress caused by these emotional conditions can change the menses of a woman.

If you want to find out for sure whether or not you are pregnant so you can be free from stress, take a pregnancy test in your home. Even better, talk to your OBGYN doctor to determine exactly what is going on with your body as you experience these symptoms.

The Best Way To Teach Your Child At An Early Age

June 3, 2010 by Hannah Saunders

You might think that all babies is cry, wet themselves and eat non-stop. You might be surprised to learn that your baby is a lot more capable of knowing what’s going on at his or or her young age than you think.

Bonding with your baby is crucial and you have to do it right from the start. Provide your little one with a lot of visual stimuli, and especially your eye contact. You will soon realize that your little one just adores looking into the faces of yourself as well as the rest of the family and friends. They learn to decipher faces and recognize people after about three months of age.

Try to spend as much time as you can with your little one. It is not easy being a mother as there are so many responsibilities to take care of within the household, but every minute you spend with your child counts. There are several ways you can form a closer bond with your baby within your available time slots. Here’s what you can do.

Try reciting nursery rhymes to your newborn because they help to introduce the little ones to language, teaching them at the same time human emotion as well as tonality. This will make your baby a lot more aware of speech sounds as well as help with the beginnings of their vocabulary.

It is also a good idea to acquire image-based books made especially for infants. There are many of these types of picture books available online as well as in children’s bookstores. Read these out to your baby when she is the most awake to ensure a good attention span.

During the times when you are too preoccupied with your house chores, invest in some colorful and cute baby toys to keep your little one entertained while you get on with what you need to do. Always make sure that these products are child-safe and made of non-poisonous materials.

Why not buy a mobile in addition to other dangling toys that you can hang above her crib? A mobile will give the little one something fascinating to focus on what you get on with the housework. Spend a few more dollars and purchased those mobiles with musical capabilities as that will help provide extra sensory input that babies require.

On a final note, it’s good to get your newborn out of the house from time to time. During warmer days especially, why not take a walk with your baby in the park? Let her experience the many different sights and sounds that will stimulate her senses, from the sound of birds to the warm wind upon her skin. Babies really benefit from these kinds of extra sensory inputs.

Getting Pregnant The Natural Way

June 1, 2010 by Philip Walters

Have you been through a number of different kinds of infertility treatments? It can be hard to hold out hope when you’ve had injections, and fertility drugs, and all that. Don’t give up hope though. Most people overcome infertility through natural methods. This has positives and negatives.

The good thing about this is that natural remedies for infertility are just plain safer. They are healthier for you and for your future baby both. You’ll have a healthier pregnancy because the remedies will detoxify your body from all of the drugs from the earlier infertility treatments. You also will like how effective the treatments are.

There is a down side to natural remedies, though. Finding the right one and getting the regimen going is quite time consuming. Plus, you are going to have all of the cost of the treatment. Insurance will often cover traditional infertility treatments, but not natural infertility remedies. If you do an Internet search for natural infertility remedies, you will find hundreds of different natural and organic options including powders and drinks and shakes and so on. Even though these are all natural, the problem is that many of them just don’t work.

How do you sort through the huge volume of remedies to find the one for you?

The easiest way to do this is to find a professional to help you. The right infertility professional can help you determine which of the various methods are the best fit for you. They will be able to better evaluate effectiveness of the plans, to contact the people who run the plans directly, and to secure all of the needed supplies for you. Having someone to help figure out which plan to use and to get all of the needed information and products together in one place will really help you reduce stress during this process.

There are negative sides to natural remedies of course. Still, for most people they decide that the benefits of finding a cure for their infertility to be well worth it. Natural remedies are both more effective and safer than prescription drugs as well.

To avoid the negatives of natural remedies, find a reputable program with a proven history of success, and follow the regimen exactly as you are told.

To use natural remedies to cure infertility, you’ll have to proceed one of two ways. You will either find the best program for you from an already established company, or you will put together your own program using information and products that you have researched yourself.

The Ins And Outs Of Being A New Mother

May 31, 2010 by Terry Heart

Parenthood is a great joy to many but there are some things people neglect to tell you before having a child that may be helpful to know. It helps to be prepared when the new baby makes his or her arrival.

When you’re baby is born don’t be surprised if it doesn’t look like the Gerber baby you’ve seen on television and in ads. It’s quite common for newborns to look odd, even strange to new parents. Their heads can be misshapen due to the trauma of childbirth. Their skin could look blue or grayish. Newborns often look like little old men and women because they tend to be wrinkly and reddish.

That’s not all. Newborns are usually bloody and can be bruised from the experience. They may be covered in body hair, especially if they are premature. This can be a shocking sight if no one’s ever mentioned it before.

If this is the case, don’t worry. In most cases they aren’t permanent conditions. In just a short while their skin becomes healthy and their heads become round. Babies recover pretty quickly and turn into the beautiful, sweet babies we have come to expect.

Be prepared for that process to take a few weeks, however. Your baby needs time to recover from the trauma of being born.

Once your new baby is born you must be prepared to make a choice about how you will be feeding him or her. The evidence in favor of breast feeding newborns is overwhelming. Most believe it is the best you could do for your child.

Breast feeding naturally contains all the nutrients and vitamins a baby needs. It is a better alternative than formula which has to be added to water, which can contain chemicals unnecessary or even harmful to your baby.

Babies benefit from breast feeding more than you know. Not only do they gain the best possible nourishment from the milk, they also bond with their mother with touch of their skin. Breast feeding provides an opportunity for closeness that can not be replicated.

3 Secret Ways To Discover Fantastic Family Practice Doctors In Your Town!

May 26, 2010 by Lawton Chiles

New! There are 3 quick and easy ways to find the perfect family practice doctors in your area or city. Using these methods, your husband or wife, and your children will likely have a much more professional and skilled doctor than if you had left your selection up to chance. These tips go way beyond asking your neighbor for advice, or even thumbing through the Yellow Pages. After putting these tips into practice, you will pretty much be drawing on your entire town or city’s collective knowledge and opinion. Ready? Let’s go!

The first step in finding qualified family practice doctors is to open up Google and type in “Children’s Doctor” or “Family Doctor” and your town name.

This is a “secret” tip that goes far beyond the Yellow Pages! See the Google Map on the left hand side, after you type in your search term? These are the local businesses that are near you! Each one should have a Reviews link attached to it, hopefully with a few reviews already in place. Click on those links and read the reviews–then pick the best doctor based on what other people have made the effort to pass on.. Cool huh?

Want to go beyond those Google Maps results? Awesome! Head over to Yelp.com and repeat the search process that we took for Google. This is giving you not one set of opinions but a lot of times, Yelp and Google will display different reviews for each business. These two review sites alone are responsible for a ton of positive and negative reviews on the internet. Now you are ready to pick the best doctor for your family!

What’s more, you can even call up a local day care center or family friend and ask them which doctors they trust in the community. This step could be the real winner because they likely have tried a few doctors and can steer you to the perfect one!

Now, you are armed with the right tools for the job. Use Google Maps Reviews, and don’t forget about Yelp.com and asking your local day care center for who they recommend. I hope that you understand the power of using these three tools to find family practice doctors in your area. Good luck!

A Few Preparation Tips For Potty Training On-The-Go

May 14, 2010 by Ciara Barthold

Toilet training blues

Parents can minimize the perils of potty training their toddlers while traveling by making a few, easy preparations.

Bringing your child’s stand alone potty chair is invaluable in continuing their potty progress. When bathroom emergencies arise you can just pull over and set up your child’s potty chair on the passenger seat. It’s important to remember to bring inserts or plastic bags with you to line the potty. They will hasten clean up and make the situation less difficult.

If you decide on bringing the potty chair, take toilet paper or wipes for your child. Stay consistent and use on the road whatever you use at home. Long trips are hard enough without adding extra elements to confuse or stress your child.

Protect your car seat and your little one’s clothes by putting them in disposable training pants before starting out. There are many styles and price points to choose from and they are worth remembering to avoid embarrassing accidents.

It’s a good idea to limit how much water your child ingests while you’re traveling. Keep them hydrated but don’t over do it or they may have an accident. Finding a place to pull over on a busy highway can be challenging sometimes and is best avoided.

Take advantage of rest stops while traveling so your child can use the bathroom. Don’t be afraid to bring along their potty seat into the restroom. Children can be afraid of the unusual surroundings so don’t be surprised if they prefer the comfort of their potty chair instead of the rest stop toilet.

You can expect your toddler to have a slip or two in his potty training progress while he’s under stress from traveling. Be patient and know that he will get it in time. Traveling is hard on adults and can be even more so, on kids.

Upon arrival, try your best to get your child back onto their normal potty routine. Both you and your child can take comfort in knowing that when you return home, you’ll be in your old surroundings and can continue with your potty training progress.

    How To Treat Baby Acne

May 12, 2010 by Susan Miles

    Baby Acne: What a Drag

You wouldn’t think that new babies can have acne, but they can. There is something called baby acne. If your baby has baby acne, don’t worry – it’s not usually dangerous. Here is what causes baby acne, and what you can do to treat it.

Acne vulgaris is caused by overproduction of oil by the sebaceous glands. The extra oil clogs pores in the hair follicles, and traps bacteria. Breakouts result.

Another likely contributor to baby acne is hormones. Hormones are passed from mother to baby at birth. As a result new babies have elevated hormone levels, which prompts the sebaceous glands into overproduction.

Baby temperament also affects acne. Babies’ breakouts get worse when they are upset or irate. Skin irritation can also make the situation worse. Make sure to clean all milk and food off of the face, and to use gentle or even hypoallergenic soaps and laundry detergents to avoid irritation from soap.

Most cases of baby acne occur when the baby is between 4 weeks old and 4 months old. More boys than girls develop the condition. If you suspect your baby has baby acne, check the face (cheeks, forehead, chin) and even back, these are common locations for the breakouts to show up.

There are other skin conditions that babies may develop as well. Because of this, you should always have a new eruption checked by a physician. A qualified professional can tell the difference between acne and an allergic reaction, and can recommend the best course for treatment.

If your baby has acne-like bumps at birth, chances are they aren’t breakouts. Some babies are just born with bumps that aren’t a skin condition. These bumps should disappear within a month or so.

Your baby may also have eczema, if she is breaking out in rashes regularly. Take her to your doctor, because your doctor can accurately identify this disorder and advise you how best to treat it.

Baby Safety Gates: Keeping Your Child Safe Is Crucial

April 29, 2010 by Kendra Dumont

Alex at the new stair gate
Image by Rob, Joyce & Alex via Flickr

Today there are many items that parents will need to purchase when their new arrival begins to be able to move around the home of their own volition. One particular item that all new parents need to consider purchasing is baby safety gates. But as there so many different ones available it can leave them feeling somewhat bewildered as to which one is the right one to purchase.

In this article we take a look at some of the things that one should be looking for when it comes to purchasing safety gates for ones home. By keeping these things in mind then you will ensure that you purchase the right kind of gate that will protect your baby.

    1. First off you need to decide whether the baby safety gates you purchase for your home are pressure or permanently mounted. The biggest advantage to going for those that are permanently fixed in position is that they are much stronger. So there is far less risk of your child as they get bigger and stronger of being able to pull them away from their positions.

Plus when it comes to those gates that are in a fixed position they are fitted with mechanisms that should the central part (the gate) need to be removed it can. So there is no need to undo the whole system.

    2. The next feature to look at when buying baby safety gates is what sort of latch system has been installed of which there are two types to choose from. With the dual latch system it allows you the chance to open the gate using only one hand. Whilst the other sort of latch comes with a pedal situated at the base of the gate which you can depress when your hands are full to open it.

    3. If you situate your gate in a position where light is limited then it is worth thinking about the models that have a light on them that turns on when within sensor range or when touched. This can help you to avoid those problems of trying to carry your child upstairs when light levels are low and ensuring that you don’t walk into the gate.

    4. Another thing that you should be looking for when it comes to buying the right kinds of baby safety gates for a home is the height. Choose the kind that won’t impede a normal adults movement but will prevent the child as they get bigger and stronger form climbing over them. Choose those gates which are don’t measure less than 3/4 of your child’s height when standing up.

If you visit http://babyhomesafetyadvice.com/ you will find more free advice and information to help you take care of your new arrival.

How To Start Treating Baby Eczema

April 29, 2010 by Jacob Cordingley
      Filed under Baby Tips

Numerous parents worry about baby eczema. This condition appears on the face, upper chest, scalp and neck in the first months of life. Later on it may appear on the forearms and shins. There are numerous information relating to baby eczema that parents should be aware of. Watch out for blisters that would break or leak and for extensive skin dryness.

If the infant’s condition is actually severe, it could involve the entire skin. Generally speaking such manifestations don’t involve the area around the mouth, the nose or the diaper areas which are usually free of eczema. If the areas of skin on the forearms and shins are thickened between the ages of twelve and eighteen months, parents shouldn’t be apprehensive since this happens due to babies’ crawling a lot.

The symptoms common to eczema, dermatitis and to baby eczema implicitly include skin scaling, inflammation and reddening of the dermis and even cracking. Even if eczema can occur virtually anywhere on the body, the scalp, the chest, the forehead and the joints are the predisposed areas for the development of baby eczema.

In very serious instances, baby eczema can become extremely itchy and irritating for the child and it could possibly even disturb their sleep. Very many infants suffer from atopic eczema which is normally hereditary. This ailment will often appear and develop between two and three months of age.

Atopic eczema represents an oversensitivity of the immune system that involves reactions to the allergic reactions to the environment in conditions normal for other individuals. Whether or not infants develop eczema because other members of the family suffer from atopic conditions such as bronchial asthma, hay fever or eczema it is nonetheless not very clear and certain. One other possibility for infants to develop baby eczema may be prolonged exposure to a particular allergen.

Regarding the treatment of baby eczema it must be pointed out that there isn’t any specific catch-all remedy, unluckily, since it’s an allergic condition. Luckily a number of treatments and remedies have been developed and so far they’ve been really good at alleviating eczema symptoms.

Although improperly referred to as remedies, there are all sorts of preventive measures that may keep baby eczema away: careful bathing habits, the use of cotton garments only, correct skin moisturizing, careful diet choice and avoiding animal contact. Besides, parents should ensure they keep the infant’s environment dust free, and at all times cut the infant’s nails short to reduce scratching.
