The Going-To-Bed Book
by Ben Dodson

Question by Mr. LOL: Why does book on tape puts me to sleep?
I’m a subscriber to Audible, the book on “tape” downloading site.

I’ve got a lot of downloads but the problem is when I listen to it at night time like when I read a book before going to bed, after about 20 minutes I’m asleep!

Why is that?

Actually for insomniacs, it’s a great method to fall asleep.

because it’s like someone reading you a bedtime story, as a parent would for a child :)

Make Way for Ducklings (Book and Audiocassette Tape) (Paperback)

It’s not easy for duck parents to find a safe place to bring up their ducklings, but during a rest stop in Boston’s Public Garden, Mr. and Mrs. Mallard think they just might have found the perfect spot–no foxes or turtles in sight, plenty of peanuts from pleasant passers-by, and the benevolent instincts of a kindly police officer to boot. Young readers will love the mother duck’s proud, loving protection of her wee webbed ones, and those with fond memories of Boston will enjoy familiar locales, from Beacon Hill to Louisburg Square, and over the Charles River–often from a duck’s-eye view. Robert McCloskey, creator of Blueberries for Sal, never fails to elicit happy story-time giggles from youngsters, and his soft, brown-toned, Caldecott-winning illustrations make this gentle world come alive.

Monkey Business“Caps! Caps for sale! Fifty cents a cap!” The peddler has huge stack of caps, balanced carefully on top of his head. Brown caps, blue caps, gray caps, and red caps. But no one wants to buy a cap. So he goes for a walk in the country, and takes a nap under a shady tree. When he wakes up, the caps are gone — al except his own checked one. Where could his caps have disappeared to? And how will he ever get them back?Subtitled A Tale of a Peddler, Some Monkeys and Their Monkey Business, this absurd and very simple story has become a classic, selling hundreds of thousands of copies since its first publication in 1940. A peddler walks around selling caps from a tall, tottering pile on his head. Unable to sell a single cap one morning, he walks out into the countryside, sits down under a tree, checks that all the caps are in place, and falls asleep. When he wakes up, the caps are gone–and the tree is full of cap-wearing monkeys. His attempts to get the caps back generate the kind of repetitive rhythm that 3- and 4-year-olds will adore. Serious silliness for all ages. Artist Sandra Boynton is back and better than ever with completely redrawn versions of her multi-million selling board books. These whimsical and hilarious books, featuring nontraditional texts and her famous animal characters, have been printed on thick board pages, and are sure to educate and entertain children of all ages. For a little one who is reluctant to go to bed, sometimes a silly book is just the ticket. And when it comes to silly books, Sandra Boynton is the undisputed queen. In The Going to Bed Book, an ark full of animals watches the sun go down and then prepares for bed. They take a bath (”in one big tub”), find pajamas, brush their teeth, do exercises up on deck (imagine an elephant jumping rope, a moose lifting weights, and a pig doing handstands), and finally say good night.

The moon is high. The sea is deep.
They rock
and rock
and rock
to sleep.

Boynton’s inimitable animal characters have graced the pages of scads of picture books over the years. She has an extraordinary knack for knowing what appeals to small children: simple rhymes, goofy animals in goofy settings, and sweet, comforting stories. This book, along with her many other board-book titles (Moo, Baa, La La La!, But Not the Hippopotamus, and others) will surely remain a favorite. (Baby to preschool) –Emilie Coulter

Question by interrogatory: I am going to bed. I am going to read a book about the fall of Constantinople to the Turks….?
…What’s your bed time story
If you read in bed, what do you read in bed? I usually read a biography or a history book. If you wake up in the middle of the night what do you do to get back to sleep? Do you read, watch TV, play a game??? What?

Best answer:

Answer by George
I read mystery or history. Sometimes I do a sudoku puzzle. I don’t turn on the TV unless I don’t want to go to sleep.

What is the name of the children’s book with the shiny silver fish?

Question by Eve D: What is the name of the children’s book with the shiny silver fish?
I’m purchasing a gift of baby books for a pregnant friend. I’d like to get a book I’ve read to several children I’ve babysat, but I can’t remember the name. It is beautifully illustrated with a shiny silver fish, and I just can’t remember what it’s called!

On a related note, if you have any great suggestions for books for a newborn, please let me know. Right now, I’m planning to get Goodnight Moon, Pat the Bunny, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Where’s Spot, and possibly Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?, Where is Baby’s Belly Button?, and Ten Little Ladybugs.

Thanks!

Pat the Bunny, one of the classic, bestselling children’s book of all time, is now available with a 6″ plush bunny. This fantastic book & bunny package makes the perfect gift for baby showers, newborns, or a special child of your own.”Here are Paul and Judy. They can do lots of things. You can do lots of things, too.” Pat the Bunny is the original interactive, multimedia experience for kids. Virtually unchanged since its introduction in 1940, the kind tone and sweet illustrations in this classic recall a bygone era, while the simple language and large print invite kids to get interested in the written word as an invitation to thought and action. Each page shows Paul or Judy involved in an activity–playing peekaboo, smelling flowers, and, of course, patting the bunny–and then guides the reader to do the same. On the pages are a scrap of cloth with Paul hiding underneath (peekaboo), fuzzy fabric (the bunny), scented paper (the flowers), and five other now-famous features that invite a child to play with the book. As one of the bestselling children’s books of all time, Pat the Bunny has become a tradition passed from one generation to the next to instill a love of books and reading. This gift set includes the book and a soft, baby-safe velour bunny toy that is loyal to the quirky bunny illustration in the book. Baby will love to take bunny along when the book has to go back on the shelf. (From birth) –Katherine Ferguson
