For Our Children Too

For Our Children Too

The 1996 follow-up CD to For Our Children packs less romp and more hush. Although the stellar lineup includes Celine Dion, Seal, Faith Hill, Natalie Cole, Cher, Luther Vandross, and others, For Our Children, Too is really a lullaby album and its predecessor is a party record. There are more ballads, more R&B singers, and more arrangements mired in overproduction. That said, if you want a gentler collection of songs, this might be your first choice. Seal turns in a poignant rendition of “Puff the Magic Dragon,” while Natalie Cole’s “Both Sides Now” shows how universal that old Joni Mitchell classic really is. James Taylor and Carly Simon’s memorable hit “Mockingbird” is also featured, along with Cher doing a predictable interpretation of “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes” from Cinderella. Celine gives “Brahm’s Lullaby” her trademark Dion treatment and Luther Vandross turns the protest anthem “If I Had a Hammer” into a moving meditation on peace and equality. Did someone say this music might be too sophisticated for kids? Still, it’s for a great cause. –Martin Keller

101 Relaxation Games for Children: Finding a Little Peace and Quiet In Between (SmartFun Activity Books)

The games in this book help teachers, parents, and others who work with children maintain or restore order, refocus children’s attention, and break up the classroom routine. Most of the games are quite short and can be used between academic activities as a treat or quick break. Many are noncompetitive, most don’t require props, and none require special skills or training. All can be played with the whole class; there are partner games, small group games, and outdoor games. Clear, complete instructions are included for each activity, and icons denote appropriate age levels, time, and group size. Author Allison Bartl has tested all of the games herself and recommends that the teacher or parent fully participate in each game, both to relax and to provide a model of good social behavior. Tips and thoughtful quotations from Goethe, Rudolf Steiner, Seneca, Lao Tse, Mother Theresa, and others are also included.

There are a number of problems that affect the oral health of children, including tooth decay, thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, lip sucking, and early tooth loss. Even though baby teeth are eventually replaced with permanent teeth, keeping baby teeth healthy is important to a child’s overall health and well-being.

Causes for oral health problems in children

1.    Vitamin deficiency

2.    Fungal infection

3.    Viral infection

4.    Congenital conditions

5.    Child abuse

6.    Bacterial infection

7.    Anti anxiety

8.    Decongestants

Prevention for oral health problems in children

1.    Add sugar to your child’s food is mostly avoided.

2.    A bottle filled with sugary liquids put your baby is avoided.

3.    Do not give cold, hot as well as sweeter food to your children.

4.    Give acidic foods to your children is avoided.

5.    Do not give sticky foods to your child.

Baby bottle tooth decay

Baby bottle tooth decay (also called early childhood caries, nursing caries, and nursing bottle syndrome) occurs when a baby’s teeth are in frequent contact with sugars from liquid carbohydrates, such as fruit juices, milk, formula, fruit juice diluted with water, sugar water or any other sweet drink. Human breast milk can cause tooth decay as well. As these liquids break down in the mouth into simple sugars and are allowed to sit in the mouth, bacteria start feeding on the sugars, causing tooth decay.

If left untreated, decayed teeth can cause pain and make it difficult to chew and eat. Also, baby teeth serve as “space savers” for adult teeth. If baby teeth are damaged or destroyed, they can’t help guide permanent teeth into their proper position, possibly resulting in crowded or crooked permanent teeth. Badly decayed baby teeth could lead to an abscessed tooth, with the possibility of infection spreading elsewhere.

How do I prevent baby bottle tooth decay?

Some tips to prevent baby bottle tooth decay include:

1.    During the day, to calm or comfort your baby, don’t give a bottle filled with sugary liquids or milk; instead, give plain water or substitute a pacifier.

2.    At anytime, don’t dip your baby’s pacifier in sugar, honey, or any sugary liquid.

3.    At bedtime, don’t put your baby to bed with a bottle filled with sugary liquids (watered-down fruit juice or milk still increases the risk of decay). Give plain water.

4.    Don’t add sugar to your child’s food

5.    Use a wet cloth or gauze to wipe your child’s teeth and gums after each feeding. This helps remove any bacteria-forming plaque and excess sugar that have built up on the teeth and gums.

6.    Ask your dentist about your baby’s fluoride needs. If your drinking water is not fluoridated, fluoride supplements or fluoride treatments may be needed.

Tips for oral health problems in children

1.    A bottle filled with plain water give your baby.

2.    A visit to your dentist is regular for your child’s teeth.

3.    You can give a lot of nutritional as well as healthy vegetables and fruits to your children.

4.    Brush your child’s teeth by using fluoride toothpaste.

5.    Change your child toothbrush after every 3-4 months is most important.

6.    In your child’s meal give a minimum snacks.

7.    You can give fluoridated water to your child’s.

Should Young Children Have Early Orthodontic Treatment?

Serious thumb-sucking II

A slightly better pic than the last one.

Should Young Children Have Early Orthodontic Treatment?

We all are not born with perfect teeth, but we don’t have to go through life with dental imperfections says San Jose Orthodontist.

San Jose cosmetic dentist says that children by age 7, have enough permanent teeth have come in andenough jaw growth has occurred that the dentist or orthodontist can identify current problems, anticipate future problems and alleviate parents’ concerns if all seems normal. The first permanentmolars and incisors have usually come in by age 7, and cross-bites, crowding and developing injury-pronedental protrusions can be evaluated. Any ongoing finger sucking or other oral habits can be assessed atthis time also.

According to San Jose cosmetic dentist, some signs or habits that may indicate the need for an early

orthodontic examination are:
• early or late loss of baby teeth,
• difficulty in chewing or biting,
• mouth breathing,
• thumb sucking,
• finger sucking,
• crowding, misplaced or blocked out teeth,
• jaws that shift or make sounds,
• biting the cheek or roof of the mouth,
• teeth that meet abnormally or not at all, and
• jaws and teeth that are out of proportion to the rest of the face.

A check-up with an orthodontic specialist no later than age 7 enables the Sunnyvale orthodontist todetect and evaluate problems (if any), advise if treatment will be necessary, and determine the besttime for that patient to be treated.

Types of Braces

Braces are usually made of stainless steel and are the most effective way to move the position of theirteeth. There are many types of braces such as metal braces, ceramic braces (matches color of teeth) andinvisible braces.

With advancement of technology and orthodontics, pain during orthodontic treatment is not much.Initially braces make your teeth sore for a few days but there is no constant pain or discomfort allthroughout the treatment.

Early orthodontic treatment is important so that corrective action can be taken now itself and to avoiddifficult treatment later on. Early treatment also gives better results and makes the new teeth eruptproperly.

At BAY DENTAL we provide the best dental care possible with the highest technology at a reasonable cost to the entire family six days a week with an emphasis on customer care and patient comfort. Dental Care Tips for Children

These days in the fast moving life where everyone is so busy there is hardly anytime left to take care of our body, teeth, etc. Even if we take good care of ourselves, it is important that we do not overlook the dental care of our kids.

It is extremely important that you understand the basics of children’s dental and oral care, because at this stage of dental care you are going to lay down a healthy and a strong dental care for the future. One best way which can help you to familiarize with the oral care needs of your child so that they have strong dental habits in the future is that you can educate yourself with the various fundamentals of children’s dentistry.

Oral Hygiene

It is important that the children’s brush your teeth twice and regular dental check ups are important in building good oral hygiene at an early age. It is important hat you brush your child’s teeth until they are big enough to do so. Brush your child’s teeth the right way. Select a small and a soft brush and pea size tooth paste is enough as it will not interfere in your brushing and it will not form much foam also.

Preventing Tooth decays by Cavities

Tooth cavities can be easily be prevented by good oral health, however some additional steps can be incurred to maintain your child’s tooth against the attack of cavities. You can use toothpaste which contains fluoride. As soon as your child’s permanent teeth have erupted it is important that you speak to the dentists about the application of sealants. Sealants are clear and a protective coating applied on the biting surfaces of the back teeth. The sealant protects against the cavity from shielding against the bacteria and plague. They are mostly placed on the back teeth, because these are the areas where there are more chances of being attacked by cavities.

Dental Habits

Although the children can develop good oral habits at an early age it is equally important that they break the bad habits like going to bed with a bottle, this is an extremely bad practice drinking any fluid which has sugar in it can cause the tooth decay very fast as the sugar substances react on the teeth throughout the night which in turn can cause the tooth decay as early as possible. Another habit which is considered as bad is the thumb sucking or the finger sucking habit. It is also a very bad practice to swallow the tooth paste.

Dental Problems

Incase your child does develop cavities in his baby teeth that it is important that you visit a dentist and get his cavities filled. Do not be in the assumption that there is no requirement of the cavities to be removed because the baby teeth would inevitably fall down, many kids do retain their baby kids for a long time and the cavities can be very painful at times.

Simple Ways to Tackle Children Bad Breath

He’s really getting the hang of it now!

Simple Ways to Tackle Children Bad Breath

Nowadays, it is very common to find children who are experiencing bad breath. There are many reasons for this recent phenomenon. But for most cases, this is usually caused by children not paying enough attention to their oral hygiene.

These children do not brush their teeth well and often consume too much food stuff that promote tooth decay. Such food stuff usually are sticky or contain too much sugar. When left in the mouth, these foods can become an excellent breeding ground for bacteria.

No matter what the cause of bad breath is, in order to solve this problem, you will need to find out the underlying cause of it. This involves recording the times when this condition usually occurs so that you will be able to narrow your search to the possible causes. Whatever the case may be, you need not panic as, in most cases, this is not a severe problem and your child is perfectly healthy.

Cause of Bad Breath In Children

Saliva helps to keep our mouth clean. During the day, the child saliva helps by washing away bad breath causing agents with the help of mouth muscles. However, when the child goes to sleep, saliva will not be produced anymore and muscles relax.

The longer the child sleeps, the more anaerobic bacteria that cause bad breath will be reproduced. As most children do sleep a lot, this allows these bacteria to multiply and their breaths begin to smell. This is also known as children morning breath.

Most children will also show bad breath during the entire day and this is normal because most of them will be breathing through their mouths. Because of that it will cause the kids mouth to dry and this creates a perfect environment for anaerobic bacteria to appear and grow in numbers.

There are a lot of reasons for children to breathe only through ones mouth. In children, the most common conditions stand in sinus infections, various allergies, colds or even tonsils or adenoids that are blocking nasal passages. Habits that the children have such as thumb sucking or sucking on a blanket can also cause drying of the mouth and thus bad breath.

How To Get Rid Of Bad Breath In Children

In order to get rid of bad breath in children, the most common and efficient thing you need to do is decrease the mouth bacteria and increase saliva flow. Believe it or not, the most efficient way to achieve this is to teach your child how to brush their teeth properly. To put it simply, the better the brushing is, the less anaerobic bacteria present in your child mouth.

It is highly important that the tongue is brushed as well. A tongue scraper which is useful for adults may not be suitable for children yet. Hence, you may want to consider getting an electric toothbrush in order to make it both fun and more efficient

Mouthwashes and different fluoride rinses are not at all recommended when dealing with children because they will most likely swallow. Also, mints are not useful and as the child gets older the best alternative is still sugar free chewing gum or candy.

Conclusion

If all this did not solve the problems you should go to a doctor in order to get a proper diagnosis and treatment. Your doctor would be the best person to tell you how to eliminate bad breath in children effectively.

Is your child suffering from bad breath? Learn what are the common causes of bad breath in children and how you can cure bad breath in children with our comprehensive bad breath remedies.

Bringing Home And Adjusting To Your Baby

June 14, 2010 by Ruth Williams

There is an old saying that if we all waited until we were completely prepared to have a baby, there wouldn’t be any babies born. Despite the fact that no one can ever be totally ready for the life changes that come with a new baby, here are some helpful tips for pregnant moms.

1. With a new baby on the way, this is actually a good time to get your finances in order. Some may say that you shouldn’t even consider conceiving until you’ve got some money saved, but it is definitely possible to have a child without having much money saved. Going forward, sit down and set up a budget you can stick to, cutting fat where you can.

2. Physical preparation should include taking the time to eat nutritious meals, to relax and nap when you can, and moderate exercise. Such low-impact exertion as walking is optimal. Be sure to check with your doctor before you start any exercise program, especially if you were sedentary before pregnancy.

3. Lots of material goods will be needed to care for a new baby. You will need diapers, onesies and blankets, of course, but don’t get carried away with clothing right away because babies grow so quickly. In terms of furniture, a bassinet, changing table and baby swing will be crucial, and possibly the most important thing of all is a good baby carrier/car seat.

4. Set up a folder in which you’ll keep all of your important information, and let your family know where it is. This includes the phone numbers of your obstetrician and pediatrician, and the numbers of family and friends to be informed of the baby’s birth.

5. Something many expectant mothers find invaluable is keeping a pregnancy journal. This is obviously not a necessity, but can be a cherished keepsake for your child later in life. This book can include ultrasounds, baby’s hospital wrist bracelet, and motherly advice for the future.

This time of your life may feel like stepping into the unknown, but these few measures can make the transition into motherhood smoother. Knowing you’ve done what you can to prepare can help you focus on establishing routines with this new little member of the family.

Owning a swimming pool in your house or garden can be a great way to have fun for yourself and indeed your whole family. However, despite that, it can also be rather dangerous if you have children about. If you have the patience, you ought to wait until your children are at least five years old or more before you put a swimming pool in your garden. On the other hand, if you already have a swimming pool, there are ways that you can protect your family.

One thing you should always remember is to never, ever, allow your children to be alone near your pool. Children tend to be attracted to water and all it takes is a second for them to fall into the swimming pool. If you and your children are at your pool side and you have to leave the area for a second, you should always take your children with you.

To be completely safe, you must always make sure that you have loads of safety equipment around your pool at all times. Safety items are essential to have around, as they could save the life of a child or anyone else who can’t swim.

You ought to invest in a shepherd’s crook as well, as you can use it to drag someone out of the water. Having a telephone at your poolside is also a good investment, since you can quickly call for help in the event of an emergency.

If you don’t already have a fence around your pool you should think about getting one right away. A fence is a useful way to keep children away from your swimming pool. If you have a protective fence up, you won’t have to worry about little children falling into it, while you are away from the pool. When you put your fence up, you ought to always make sure that it’s at least six feet high with a locking gate. In this way, no one can get into the pool without a key, which you have to keep on you at all times.

You could learn CPR as well. Even though you hopefully will not ever have to use it. It is always great to know CPR in the event of someone falling into your pool that is unable to swim. Whenever you have people you know can’t swim at your pool, you should always stay near them, so you can react instantly if they fall in. A minute can make all the difference to saving someone’s life.

Always bear in mind that swimming is fun, although you have to always think in terms of safety first. Once you have finished using your pool for the day, make sure that you lock up the poolside well – and padlock the gate tight so no one can get in too.
