Toilet training blues

Parents can minimize the perils of potty training their toddlers while traveling by making a few, easy preparations.

Bringing your child’s stand alone potty chair is invaluable in continuing their potty progress. When bathroom emergencies arise you can just pull over and set up your child’s potty chair on the passenger seat. It’s important to remember to bring inserts or plastic bags with you to line the potty. They will hasten clean up and make the situation less difficult.

If you decide on bringing the potty chair, take toilet paper or wipes for your child. Stay consistent and use on the road whatever you use at home. Long trips are hard enough without adding extra elements to confuse or stress your child.

Protect your car seat and your little one’s clothes by putting them in disposable training pants before starting out. There are many styles and price points to choose from and they are worth remembering to avoid embarrassing accidents.

It’s a good idea to limit how much water your child ingests while you’re traveling. Keep them hydrated but don’t over do it or they may have an accident. Finding a place to pull over on a busy highway can be challenging sometimes and is best avoided.

Take advantage of rest stops while traveling so your child can use the bathroom. Don’t be afraid to bring along their potty seat into the restroom. Children can be afraid of the unusual surroundings so don’t be surprised if they prefer the comfort of their potty chair instead of the rest stop toilet.

You can expect your toddler to have a slip or two in his potty training progress while he’s under stress from traveling. Be patient and know that he will get it in time. Traveling is hard on adults and can be even more so, on kids.

Upon arrival, try your best to get your child back onto their normal potty routine. Both you and your child can take comfort in knowing that when you return home, you’ll be in your old surroundings and can continue with your potty training progress.

Having Far More Life-Spans With Baby Outfits

April 21, 2010 by Janet Stevens

Baby clothes prove to be very expensive. This is because they grow quickly. And they outgrow their clothes just too quickly. It is very important that new mothers learn a few tricks to get the most out of the clothes that their baby has just outgrown.

If you want your babies to wear their clothes even after they have outgrown them, here are a few things that you can try.

Onesies are great and quite workable. You can easily turn onesies into a couple of shirts. Just cut them off right at the leg holes. Pull the material around the edges in such a way that it rolls a little. This will ensure that there are no threads left or else your baby can pull or chew them.

With footsie pyjamas, you can do the same thing. All you need to do is cut off the feet. Once you have done this, they can be easily used for a month.

You can also get some more months of wear from snappy shirts and overalls by adding a few extra buttons.

A mid-priced sewing machine is a necessity for every new mother. It can help you make alterations and additions to your baby’s clothes easily.

Once you have the sewing machine, you need to learn a few sewing tips. And then you can easily add that extra material at the bottom of a skirt or a dress. If you want to remove the hem out a pair of jeans, you can also easily do that with a sewing machine.

When you buy clothes for your baby, make sure to buy clothes that are not very expensive. They should be made of cotton and ideally should have a lot snaps and elastics. So, when you need to make alterations, the task will become quite simple.

It is quite difficult to use shoes. But canvas sneakers bought in spring can easily be converted into a mule for the summer.

The socks that you buy should be without built in heels. This will ensure that the socks last for a longer time. Pick socks that are plain since they can be used for a longer time. For the summer, choose white or grey socks.

All you need to do is learn the basics of sewing and you are ready to let the designer in you out!

Learning About What Is Involved When You Are A Parent

April 17, 2010 by Tim Darkner

Any parent is going to tell you that looking after your offspring is very hard work. When they are babies, you are mostly involved with night feeds, changing diapers, and soothing crying infants.

A few years later, you will find that things that need your attention will change. You have to prepare yourself for these changes and learn to familiarize yourself with every new situation that may come your way.

With your school-aged children, your world revolves around monitoring their progress at school, making sure they do their homework, convincing them to keep their rooms clean, acting as mediators in their squabbles with siblings and other kids. When they become adults and have families of their own, you would think that your work is done, but then

However, parenting is not all grueling hard work. If anything, we could compare it to a long-term investment. The more you put into your children, the greater the dividend that you will receive in the end.

By spending lots of your time and effort instructing your children on how to behave well and treat every person with the respect they deserve, you will get the pleasure of watching them turn into decent human beings. This is true with education also.

If you spend a lot of time encouraging your children to ask questions and read books, sitting down with them to do their homework, you will receive an educated and cultured person at the end.

The rewards of parenting do not come until you see your children grow into the people you worked hard for them to be. They will be the product of your labors and sacrifices.

Parents of problem children should also hang in there. The troubled children that receive the most support and love from their parents are the ones who end up making sense of their lives at some stage. So – keep on investing and you will soon see some dividends.

The Simple Way To Deal With A Toddler Girl’s Tantrums

April 6, 2010 by Vanessa Whitmore

Many parents find it controlling their children a very stressful and difficult job, and most of them are really at a loss of what to do. This is especially true for parents who have their first child, as there has been no prior experience to fall back onto. This short article will address the most commonly encountered problem associated with child tantrums.

If you have tried several ways and if they haven’t worked for you, the tips below will ensure you’ll have your kid under control within several weeks. The big takeaway here is to be persistent and continue till you see positive results. Remember that things won’t happen over night, and this is especially true when it comes to changing the way your child behaves. It will take some time.

I’m sure that you’ve read up by now, in parenting magazines and books, that when your child reaches the toddler’s age of 18 months, he or she can be quite a handful. They start testing their limits and will truly test your patience by throwing tantrums and the like. You have to understand that this is normal, so don’t get to worked up by what your toddler does.

The magic formula to dealing with these behavior challenges is always to stand your own ground and always always be strict with them. They are going to attempt to push you to find out just how much they may get away with for the reason that this really is part and parcel of their growing up process and also to know what is correct and also what’s bad, and if you actually mean what you say. So be unwavering and unaffected, this will show them that you really mean business and “no” really means “no”.

A good technique for getting your child to do something is to give them alternative choices, which will get the same end result. An example is when you want your little girl to put on her hat or beanie because it’s cold outside, but she absolutely refuses. Don’t keep trying to force the beanie on her, rather give her a choice. Say something like “would you like to wear the green beanie or pink beanie today?”. Kids like to think that they’re the boss at this age, and giving her that choice satisfies her demands, and yours too!

So what happens when your child crosses the line? You’ve given her multiple warnings but she still continues to do what she’s not supposed to. Should you give her a smack, or not? What’s the best thing to do? If you’ve already told her not to climb on the couch but she continues to do so, just pick her up and put her in her room or play pen and isolate her for a while.

Never show signs of weakness on your part. Instead, be cold and ignorant when you need to and don’t react to your little girl’s behavior. When the tantrums start just ignore her and continue along and don’t even flinch. Children can only scream and yell for so long before they get totally exhausted, and when this happens, you can go back to being your normal warm self. One thing you can also do is to give her a little praise for being a good little princess, when she stops crying. You will find that praising your child works a lot better than screaming at her.

A Good Car Seat: The Britax Boulevard

March 24, 2010 by Sara Young

The Britax Boulevard convertible car seat is the ultimate in this company’s line of side impact protection restraint car seats.

The Boulevard car seat is one of the great car seats made by the Britax Company. This car seat is designed to be convertible. The convertible feature means that it can accommodate your child in both a forward facing and a rear facing setup. For infants the Boulevard in its rear facing set up can accommodate children from five to 35 pounds. In the forward facing configuration or set up the Boulevard car seat will hold a child that weighs from 20 to 65 pounds. Another great aspect of the Boulevard car seat is its side impact protection. The side impact protection is offered by deep side wings that are built into the car seat to protect your child. The side wings are very easily adjusted using a knob so that as your child grows the side wings can be in just the right place to protect them.

Not only are the britax car seats safe they’re also very comfortable. The Boulevard has many pads that are placed just where they need to be to give your child a comfortable ride. You’ll find padding in most of the places that you would typically find such as the headrest, shoulder belt, and the integrated toddler pillow and the removable infant body pillow. Another great aspect is the plush removable and washable car seat covers. You will also find that there are many add-on car seat covers that can give you a complete new fresh look should you want a new look and feel for your car seat.

Additional safety features about the Boulevard car seat are the built-in vehicle belt lock-outs which make it very easy to install the Boulevard car seat. Most of the newer vehicles come with top tether points and the Britax Boulevard uses the versa tether system to attach to these top tether points. These tether points are what help prevent the car seat from tilting. When you combine this with the LATCH system connectors and a push-button release you have a safe secure system that can also be easily installed in your vehicle. And don’t overlook the patented floating HUGS system which is designed to reduce the movement of your child’s head thus protecting the neck and head should you be involved in an accident. Additionally the EPS protective foam is placed in all the right spots to protect your child’s head and torso providing maximum safety for your child.

When you purchase a Britax Boulevard convertible car seat you will be purchasing peace of mind and safety for both you and your child.

The CPM or the Certified Professional Midwife is the highest level. The North American Registry of Midwives certifies those who want to be on this level. Winter Season Outfits – Which Is Most Effective For Infants?

February 23, 2010 by Glenda Goh

Parents often wonder what the right way to dress their baby in the cold weather is. They are not sure whether the baby is feeling just about right. Or is their little one feeling too cold or too warm.

Well, there is no easy answer to this. However, there is one thing you should remember while choosing baby clothing for the winter season. What you need to do is put on the same kind of clothes on your baby as you would put on yourself. It is not true that if the season is very cold and windy, your baby should be wearing layers and layers of clothing. It would only make him feel too hot. Yes, babies also tend to feel hot just like we do.

Parents often tend to overdress their babies. And they don’t even know that they are doing it. Often, the baby will begin to cry in the back seat. And parents will not even know why the baby is crying. What parents don’t realize is that their little one may just be feeling too warm.

In case you are dressed in a long-sleeve shirt and light weight jacket, you should know that this is exactly what your baby also needs. If you think that your baby may feel cold, then it may be a good idea to just keep a blanket with you.

If it is snowing or if it is windy and cold just put on a hat and mittens on your baby. It is important to keep their ears protected from the wind.

A car seat cover that fits over your baby’s car seat is also a good idea. It will protect the baby from the windy. Also, use layers of clothing when you are going out.

Multiple blankets are not always a good solution. Babies are usually in the car when you go out and if they are outside, it is only for a very little time. While in the car, your baby may just begin feeling too warm.

So, yes the solution is quite simple. Dress your baby as you would dress yourself in the cold weather. This will ensure that the right temperature is maintained.

Don’t Short Your Baby on Car Seat Protection

February 22, 2010 by Frank Froggatt
    Filed under Baby Products

Parents go out of their way to choose the fitting car seat for their baby. They go completely out of their way to make sure that the little precious passenger they are bringing along is sufficiently protected. Yet currently , the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that, according to a multi-year study, misuse occurred in 3 quarters of the baby safety seats inspected.

The results of this study conclude that 3 of 4 parents put their children at risk while in vehicles unknowingly because they do not use the restraints properly. The most common mistakes found were loose harness straps and safety belt attachments. These seemingly innocent mistakes are viewed to be the most critical of mistakes because they can result in the worst injuries.

So how am I to know when my kid is safe or not?

First, make sure you are using the suitable seat – in the best position — for your baby’s age and weight. Most infant seats can be used in the rear-facing position for children under one year of age who have not yet reached 20 pounds.

For babies that are younger and smaller there are infant only seats that are designed especially for them and are a exceptionally good choice for newborn babies. They offer a good fit and are conveniently small and portable. These infant car seats should only be installed facing the rear of the vehicle and located in the back seat as with all car seats.

If you fancy a seat that will hold your baby as he grows, a convertible seat is another option. These are much bigger and heavier than a regular newborn car seat so they can be used as your kid ages and gets bigger. As with regular infant car seats, these convertible car seats are still to be used in the rear facing position for any child under 20 pounds and under a year old. After your baby reaches 20 pounds and it is their first birthday you can feel safe to turn the car seat around to face the front position. Most convertible seats accommodate children up to 40 pounds.

Proper use of a child’s car seat is an absolute necessity no matter which style you choose. If your car is newer then chances are it will have instructions for car seat installation so you need to pay attention to this as well as the manufacturers instructions on the seat. To be effective, your child’s seat must be buckled into the seat correctly, and the seat must be correctly buckled into your car.

Harness straps seem to be an area of particular difficulty for parents. In order for your kid to be safe, the harness needs to be fitted snugly to your babies chest and in the right slot position. The straps should be in the slots at or below your baby’s shoulders for most infant seats and at or above baby’s shoulders for more convertible seats. That clip that holds the two straps together should be around armpit level and the straps should not be twisted at all. You should always check the owner’s manual to confirm correct placement.

The use of safety belts is also a problem area. Be sure the seat belt follows the appropriate path for the position of the seat and recline the seat at about a 45-degree angle, if possible. A rolled towel under the base helps secure the seat into position. Tighten the seat belt, as needed, to ensure the restraint is secured to your vehicle. If your automobile has a LATCH system, use it according to the specifications of your baby’s seat and those of the vehicle owner’s manual.

Other important seat considerations include seat age and condition. If the car seat that you have isn’t something you purchased brand-new, you can find out the age by looking at the label. Don’t trust the safety of your child in a seat that is more than five years old and doesn’t have any manufacturers instructions along with it. It is critical that all the parts are there and that you know if the seat has been in any accidents. Don’t take a chance on anything you are unsure of.

Another extremely good idea is that if you are unsure about anything make sure that you take the seat to a safety seat technician and have it checked.Your baby’s life may depend on it.

There are many sites on the net to buy car seats for sale. If you are seeking convertible car seats then you will do very well on getting a good price by going to http://babystrollersandcarseats.net/convertible-car-seats.php

How To Make The Most Effective Use Of Unwanted Infant Garments

February 18, 2010 by Jenna McEvans

Parents often have problems figuring out what to do with the old baby clothes lying in the cupboard. It is very difficult to decide what you should save and what you should throw away. But don’t worry, here are a few steps that can help you deal with the clutter of old baby clothes lying in your closet.

Get ready with a few bags in which you can put in the old clothing. Then all you need to do is to put the bags in the car and drop it wherever you want.

The next thing you should do is deal with stained clothing. You can use these clothes as rags in your house or you can make a small memory quilt out of these clothes. You can use a quilt making guide to make your memory quilt.

Now you need to decide which clothes you would like to save. For example, if you want to have another baby, then you can save the basic clothes such as jackets, socks, and booties.

If there is any baby clothing that has sentimental value, then just save it. It could be anything like the first outfit that your baby was wearing when you came back home or the gown he or she was wearing on the christening day. All you need to do is make sure that it is preserved carefully.

If you are thinking of saving some clothes to save money down the road, then forget it. This is because the money spent in storing them and quite possibly moving them can become too much.

You can also think of consigning baby clothes. You will be able to get back some of the cash that you spent on these clothes. And it is up to you whether you want to buy some new clothes with this money or you just want to keep it for later use.

If the clothes are unstained or the clothes are not more than 2 years old, you can easily give them over to a consignment store. You can get more money or higher store credit, if there is a brand name attached.

Other than this report, the author has publicized other helpful content articles on newborn dresses and baby party dresses.
