How To Treat Baby Acne

Baby Acne: What a Drag

You wouldn’t think that new babies can have acne, but they can. There is something called baby acne. If your baby has baby acne, don’t worry – it’s not usually dangerous. Here is what causes baby acne, and what you can do to treat it.

Acne vulgaris is caused by overproduction of oil by the sebaceous glands. The extra oil clogs pores in the hair follicles, and traps bacteria. Breakouts result.

Another likely contributor to baby acne is hormones. Hormones are passed from mother to baby at birth. As a result new babies have elevated hormone levels, which prompts the sebaceous glands into overproduction.

Baby temperament also affects acne. Babies’ breakouts get worse when they are upset or irate. Skin irritation can also make the situation worse. Make sure to clean all milk and food off of the face, and to use gentle or even hypoallergenic soaps and laundry detergents to avoid irritation from soap.

Most cases of baby acne occur when the baby is between 4 weeks old and 4 months old. More boys than girls develop the condition. If you suspect your baby has baby acne, check the face (cheeks, forehead, chin) and even back, these are common locations for the breakouts to show up.

There are other skin conditions that babies may develop as well. Because of this, you should always have a new eruption checked by a physician. A qualified professional can tell the difference between acne and an allergic reaction, and can recommend the best course for treatment.

If your baby has acne-like bumps at birth, chances are they aren’t breakouts. Some babies are just born with bumps that aren’t a skin condition. These bumps should disappear within a month or so.

Your baby may also have eczema, if she is breaking out in rashes regularly. Take her to your doctor, because your doctor can accurately identify this disorder and advise you how best to treat it.

Aside from baby advice, the writer additionally frequently shares knowledge regarding auto bumper repair and auto dent repairs.

The Reasons Why Women Choose To Have A Baby At Home

January 31, 2010 by Sharon Christopher

Basically, having a baby at home used to be the widely accepted norm until the 20th century. Most of the people would agree by saying that it is surely because we were not technologically advanced. They say that now that there are more hospitals and medicine there is no need to have it hat home. But there is absolutely a growing group of women who have really chosen to have a baby at home. It is definitely because of hospitals and medicines that these women have actually chosen to have babies at home.

First of all as mentioned earlier women are choosing to have their baby at home because of the medicine and hospitals. The thought is that instead of looking at having a baby as natural as it should be, most medical people generally treat it as a medical procedure. The women who are having at home don’t want to have it be a medical procedure.

This kind of mindset is what actually drives women to have babies at home. They want to have their children the natural way for several reasons. For one they don’t want any drugs to be introduced to the newborn baby. Plus they definitely don’t want those drugs basically because it slows down the delivery process. Sure it may dull the pain, but in the long run it makes the pan last longer.

Having these babies at home most of the times does not require any medical intervention. Although the midwives who perform these important procedures are trained medically, generally medicine is no longer required. Simply because of this, most women really enjoy a fast delivery without any painful medical intervention.

Finally, women really want to have the family participate in the delivery of the newborn baby. Today in hospitals most of the family is shut out of the birthing process. Usually only the husband is allowed in the delivery room. But with a home birth most women can allow their family to participate in the delivery.

So as you can see there are definitely many and various reasons to have a baby at home. Because of that there are many women choosing to have their babies at home.

The Birth House

The Birth House is the story of Dora Rare, the first daughter to be born in five generations of the Rare family. As a child in an isolated village in Nova Scotia, she is drawn to Miss Babineau, an outspoken Acadian midwife with a gift for healing and a kitchen filled with herbs and folk remedies. During the turbulent first years of World War I, Dora becomes the midwife’s apprentice. Together, they help the women of Scots Bay through infertility, difficult labors, breech births, unwanted pregnancies and even unfulfilling sex lives.

But when Gilbert Thomas, a brash medical doctor, comes to Scots Bay with promises of fast, painless childbirth, some of the women begin to question Miss Babineau’s methods—and after Miss Babineau’s death, Dora is left to carry on alone. In the face of fierce opposition, she must summon all of her strength to protect the birthing traditions and wisdom that have been passed down to her.

Filled with details that are as compelling as they are surprising—childbirth in the aftermath of the Halifax Explosion, the prescribing of vibratory treatments to cure hysteria and a mysterious elixir called Beaver Brew—Ami McKay has created an arresting and unforgettable portrait of the struggles that women faced to have control of their own bodies and to keep the best parts of tradition alive in the world of modern medicine.

Calm Birth: New Method for Conscious Childbirth

The “trauma of childbirth” is a commonly heard phrase, but one that Calm Birth authoritatively counters. Beginning with a history of the repression of women as midwives and healers and a look at the lingering legacy of that time, the book shows how to restore childbirth to its sacred status. Calm Birth combines three proven practices that together create a powerful new approach. These practices — relaxation, meditation, and healing — combine with current scientific knowledge to nurture the expectant mother’s natural ability to give birth in true harmony with her body and with her infant. The book contextualizes the multilayered Calm Birth method within the existing literature of mind/body medicine and meditation science, as well as the meditation traditions from which two of the methods originate. The author complements the thoughts of renowned experts including Carlos Castaneda and Carolyn Myss with eight inspiring case studies of women who have experienced calm births.

The Business of Being Born

Studio: New Line Home Video Release Date: 05/06/2008 Rating: NrIs it conceivable that in the United States, profit is increasingly driving the business of birthing–sometimes at the expense of the best possible outcome for mothers and babies? Should birth be viewed and treated as a natural process or a potential medical emergency? This documentary, produced by Ricki Lake and directed by Abby Epstein, opines that money and fear are changing the way Americans give birth, and not necessarily for the better. Beginning with shocking statistics that the United States has the second-worst newborn death rate in the developed world and one of the highest maternal mortality rates in industrialized countries, the film presents interviews with medical professionals including Dr. Jacques Moritz, OB/GYN from St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital; Dr. Michel Odent, OB/GYN researcher; and Masden Wagner, MD, former Director for Women’s and Children’s Health at the World Health Organization. Each expert paints a dismal picture of American birthing and emphasizes the frequent overuse of medical procedures in what are otherwise potentially normal deliveries. Stressing the prevalent use of midwives in birthing in other developed nations (70% of births are attended by midwives in Europe and Japan, versus 8% in the U.S.), the documentary then follows Cara Muhlhahn, a certified nurse midwife in New York City, as she attends a variety of home births. The footage is candid and sometimes very graphic, showing various home-delivery methods, including water birth. Interviews with Cara and her clients emphasize their shared philosophy on birthing as a normal life process that, when attended by a caring and well-trained midwife, can be both empowering and exhilarating. Though a midwife is often characterized as a supportive, but medically untrained birth attendee, the film dispels that stereotype, stressing a good midwife’s solid training and knowledge of when it’s appropriate to seek outside medical intervention. Key in every birth is a commitment to doing what’s best for mother and baby, regardless of pre-planned agendas. The filmmaker’s lament is that hospitals and doctors often too quickly advocate medical intervention in the interest of saving time and avoiding potential litigation. While unquestionably advocating midwifery over hospital birthing, this documentary presents solid expert opinions, concrete facts and statistics, and anecdotal experiences of both mothers and midwives that are crucial in making an informed decision about the use of midwifery in birthing as well as enlightening as to the current state of birthing in the United States. –Tami Horiuchi

Using Games For Learning Purposes

January 30, 2010 by Edie Mindell

Being a parent is the greatest journey one could ever take in her life. There are certain facts in life that we need to know when it comes to parenting: Parenting is a tough job; everyday is a learning process for both the parents and their children; and children usually have short attention spans.

Knowing these facts in life, as a parent, you need to be in full control of your children and to think of ideas on how to work your way to their world. Here are some of these effective ideas:

1. Teaching through games

Because children have short attention spans, they are likely to be bored every now and then especially with boring tasks. As a parent, you want your children to learn fast, and the way to get their attention to focus is to incorporate games when teaching and reviewing their lessons, so they won’t get bored easily. Teaching through games helps the child to not only understands and comprehends his lessons, but to enjoy while learning.

2. Patience is the best virtue

When disciplining your baby, since he has yet to understand what is right from wrong, or what’s proper and what’s not acceptable, patience always works wonders. Every parent must learn how to practice patience when dealing with children, and not to mix anger with discipline.

3. Setting the mood

When you need to give your child a new routine from what he has been accustomed to, you need to set the right mood for him to easily adjust to new settings. For example, if your baby used to stay awake until way past midnight, and you think you need to change that sleeping routine. Say, you want him to sleep at 8 pm, you need to prepare him to sleep by 6 pm or after he finishes his dinner. By 7 pm, you need to turn off all the lights and set a dark atmosphere to make him feel sleepy. It would surely work on your baby!!!!!

4. Consistency is the key

Most of the times, moms are so easy to convince because they can’t stand being angry with their children for a period of time. And because of this, children are so used to work their way convincing their moms to say yes every time they need it. You should correct this false belief of your children. Be strict and consistent when the situation calls for it. When you say no, always mean it and never be easily persuaded by your children. If your child has done something wrong, punish him in a proper way. Be firm when giving him a choice: either he does the right thing or he has to endure your punishment.

5. Surprise them!!!!

Experts say that rewards, when unexpected, work better than bribing. Kids are more delighted when surprised and they appreciate the gesture more. They have their moments, but they learn form their mistakes. Also make sure that you are enforcing these rules because you love them. Kids will appreciate it more.

Hemorrhoid Pain Relief Tips

Diagram to show a variety of Hemorrhoids

Image via Wikipedia

Are you suffering from hemorrhoids? If so I am glad you are here reading this. In this article you will learn three great tips on hemorrhoid pain relief. The three tips include finding the right kind of cream, how to get rid of constipation, and taking a sitz bath.

1-Try rubbing some cream on the booty

This sounds kind of funny huh? Latest research has proven that by rubbing some cream on the butt you will be able to get rid of the pain caused from hemorrhoids. However, not just any kind of cream will work. You need to find some cream that is very high in zinc and maybe even castor oil. Any kind of pharmacy should have these, your best bet is to run to your local Walgreens and see if they have any creams like this. The only problem with doing this is it will not get rid of your hemorrhoid pain permanently, only temporarily. That is ok though because sometimes we just need a little temporary relief.

2-try to get rid of constipation

The majority of the times, constipation is the cause of hemorrhoids, if you can find a way to get rid of your constipation then you will easily get rid of your hemorrhoids. In order to get rid of it you first need to find out what is causing it. The majority of times, it is because a persons diet is low in fiber. It is also a good idea to take some relaxants.

3-Take a sitz bath

Taking one of these baths will help you for temporary relief. All you do is simply sit of your butt in a sitz bath for a minimum of ten to fifteen minutes. When taking one of these baths, it is important to make sure the water is warmer than room temperature or else it will be much less effective. You can purchase a sitz from any kind of pharmacy.

If you are suffering from hemorrhoids it would be a very wise idea to follow those simple tips. By following those tips it will allow you to get an immediate and long term cure for hemorrhoids.

My Newborn Baby Is Not Sleeping Peacefully

January 13, 2010 by Gywneth Evans

Peacefully sleeping baby
Did you know that the amount of time a baby spends napping during the day affects his sleep patterns during the night? In the event that your child naps at a late time of day, it reduce its ability to sleep well at night for sure.

If you are getting up consistently every night in order to soothe your baby, then it’s time for you to consider resetting your child’s natural pattern.

On the other hand you will have to also monitor your baby’s nap cycles during the day. If he starts looking tired, have your child take a nap before he gets much too tired and is unable to sleep well later on.

You can easily tell by just looking to see if the child is fussy, annoyed, quiet and has no interest in its environment. Keep your eye on your infant as much as possible and don’t delay when you see those symptoms. Let these clues guide you in setting a normal nap schedule for your newborn baby.

Why the big rush? If your baby doesn’t go to sleep when it needs to, it might just stop feeling sleepy after a while – as adults we experience this too. They go into the second stage of alertness and will feel even more tired at a later stage.

For you to rearrange your infant’s time of sleep will not take as long as you think. Your little one is more adaptable than you might realize. Just attempt the routine on a consistent basis and before you know it, you will not have to wake up regularly every night to put your child back to sleep.

Even if you do everything right, things might not always go according to plan. There will be times where nap times are not possible (like when you take your baby out to the shopping mall for example). That is fine, just don’t do it too consistently or a new habit might form.

Continue routinely with the same course of action even if you do get a few days of interruption to your little one’s nap times. Most infants will quickly get used to repetition, so you don’t have to worry about a family outing ruining all your hard work.

Buying a CD with soothing music might help accelerate sleep so you can try that along with any other methods. There are books available that show you easy methods to get your baby to sleep easy, so I suggest you get a copy and educate yourself. When you have tuned in well enough to your baby’s needs, you will have a much easier time with parenting and maybe, just maybe, the both of you will finally get a solid night’s rest.

Pampers Cruisers Diapers and Their Strengths

January 13, 2010 by Susan Parish

Manon

Pampers Cruisers diapers are specially designed for babies that are starting to walk and become more active. Pampers Cruisers have super-stretchy sides so that babies can freely sit, bend, crawl, and walk without restriction. The diapers also have a contoured fit, providing for less diaper bulk around the legs, allowing your baby to move with ease.

Cruisers are more comfortable for babies than other diapers on the market. Parents find that their babies do not get rashes as easily as they do with other diaper brands.

The diapers are super absorbing and leak proof, so parents need not worry about leaks on their baby’s sheets. They are leak proof even when babies and toddlers run around the house.

Pampers is well aware of the fact that babies grow by the month, and accordingly offers these diapers in many different sizes. The size will generally depend upon the baby’s weight, and you’ll be happy to know that babies as heavy as 41 pounds and more still have a pair of Cruisers they’ll be able to fit into.

As a result, these are diapers that you’ll end up sticking with for several years following the birth of your baby. You’ll no longer need to stress about finding that optimal diaper.

As far as pricing is concerned, Cruisers diapers will generally cost a bit more money. Due to the high quality of the diapers and the fact that Pampers is one of the most well known brands in the industry, this makes logical sense. Still, you’ll find that the extra money is well worth the cost of comfort.

The Pampers Cruisers website is rather useful too. Not only do they have a free newsletter that offers parenting advice, but they’ll also alert you about coupons and other discounts on diapers from time to time.

There’s also a point rewards system that gives you incentives for purchasing your diapers online. As you earn more points, you can redeem them for all kinds of exciting small gifts.

Naturally, you can buy Pampers Cruisers diapers just about anywhere, though I’d recommend looking online to buy them in bulk for the best savings possible.
