Keep Your Children Safe While Traveling

It might seem really unnecessary by some people for me to spend $250 on a car seat when Walmart offers them for 1/5th that amount. However, I have good reason. If I were to get in a serious accident, I’d want to be 100% sure my kids were as safe as they could be. I wouldn’t want to have any regrets about what they were sitting in when the accident happened.
My fears are not unwarranted either. I’ve heard far too many stories about car seats or seat belts failing at the critical moment in car accidents. A personal acquaintance of mine lost both children due to seat belt failure, one of which was the seat belt of a baby car seat.
Because I never want to worry about it while I’m driving, I’ve researched all kinds of car seats and their safety. I’ve learned that keeping a child in a 5-point harness for as long as possible is the safest thing to do, and only two car seat brands allow for this feature in their car seats. Those brands are Britax and Sunshine Kids.
I decided to buy the Sunshine Radian 80 car seats. I felt they would keep my girls nice and safe up until they are 80 pounds. Most car seats have weight limits of 40 pounds and then want you to move your kids into a booster. The Sunshine Radian keeps them safest in the 5 point harness for double the normal weight limits! They also have some other great features as well.
Steel frames – these frames won’t deteriorate in the hot sun like other car seat frames. Plastic is far too susceptible to damage by heat and sun.
Rear-facing and forward-facing – these car seats are convertible so they work for both infants and booster seat aged kids.
The harness belts don’t fold up – cheaper car seats tend to have harnesses that fold up and get really hard to handle
LATCH system – because car seat belts have been known to fail, the LATCH system allows the car seat to be strapped directly to the car for better safety
Transportable – while the Sunshine Radian 80 seats are heavy due to the strong steel frame, they do fold up nicely and transport easily like a backpack. This feature is pretty neat if you have to do airline travel.
Not bulky – these car seats are narrow enough that you can actually fit three of them side by side in most cars. That feature alone is worth a lot!
I never regret buying my Sunshine Kids Radian 80 car seat. My kids are in one of the safest car seats on the market and comfortable to boot. The extra money was definitely worth it!

A Good Car Seat: The Britax Boulevard

The Britax Boulevard convertible car seat is the ultimate in this company’s line of side impact protection restraint car seats.
The Boulevard car seat is one of the great car seats made by the Britax Company. This car seat is designed to be convertible. The convertible feature means that it can accommodate your child in both a forward facing and a rear facing setup. For infants the Boulevard in its rear facing set up can accommodate children from five to 35 pounds. In the forward facing configuration or set up the Boulevard car seat will hold a child that weighs from 20 to 65 pounds. Another great aspect of the Boulevard car seat is its side impact protection. The side impact protection is offered by deep side wings that are built into the car seat to protect your child. The side wings are very easily adjusted using a knob so that as your child grows the side wings can be in just the right place to protect them.
Not only are the britax car seats safe they’re also very comfortable. The Boulevard has many pads that are placed just where they need to be to give your child a comfortable ride. You’ll find padding in most of the places that you would typically find such as the headrest, shoulder belt, and the integrated toddler pillow and the removable infant body pillow. Another great aspect is the plush removable and washable car seat covers. You will also find that there are many add-on car seat covers that can give you a complete new fresh look should you want a new look and feel for your car seat.
Additional safety features about the Boulevard car seat are the built-in vehicle belt lock-outs which make it very easy to install the Boulevard car seat. Most of the newer vehicles come with top tether points and the Britax Boulevard uses the versa tether system to attach to these top tether points. These tether points are what help prevent the car seat from tilting. When you combine this with the LATCH system connectors and a push-button release you have a safe secure system that can also be easily installed in your vehicle. And don’t overlook the patented floating HUGS system which is designed to reduce the movement of your child’s head thus protecting the neck and head should you be involved in an accident. Additionally the EPS protective foam is placed in all the right spots to protect your child’s head and torso providing maximum safety for your child.
When you purchase a Britax Boulevard convertible car seat you will be purchasing peace of mind and safety for both you and your child.

A Beneficial Rule Set About Feeding Babies
March 16, 2010 by Lloyd Christopher

Our children have no real say in what they eat; it all depends on what we choose to give them. By adopting a responsible attitude and giving them a good start in life they are likely to grow up string and healthy.
Once they are ready to start on solids and leave the breast, don’t rush out and buy loads of ready made baby food, they contain all sorts of additives that your baby just doesn’t need. Try making your own instead.
A lot of parents can’t wait to wean their babies and introduce lots of different foods into their baby’s diet, but quite frankly this is just going to upset their delicate stomachs. Introduce things gradually, and start them off with a fruit that is mashed to a puree or paste. Choose fruit that is easy on the digestive system, such as pear or buttermilk squash.
After your baby has tried various fruits over a period of time, you can try them on different foods. A smooth mash of boiled carrot and potato is ideal, as are thin broths or cereals.
Always remember that mashes must be smooth and have nothing added. A thin porridge made from mashed banana is perfect; but don’t add any sugar.
A good way to make a broth when your child is a bit older is to make it with organic chicken, but strain it so they get the goodness but there is no chance of choking on the pieces of chicken.
When preparing broth and the like, avoid ‘windy’ veg such as onions and wait a while before adding pulses. Cauliflower and broccoli can also cause wind so leave those until later too.
Making your children’s baby food is a lot cheaper as well as being much healthier. You know exactly what’s going into it and can relax in the knowledge that your baby is getting a great start in life.
Aside from parenting, the author also frequently gives advice about the Bud Light neon sign and custom yard signs.
A Thorough Guide To Buying A Baby Bedding Solution
March 10, 2010 by Chris Channing
Bedding for your new baby isn’t going to be cheap. Even if you buy used, there is plenty of markup in baby beds. You must navigate your way around all the inflated prices, find a baby bed that is comfortable and with many features, and finally find a solution for your baby to sleep on.
The first thing to consider is buying used or new. If you buy a new crib, you are getting the best possible crib, in its best condition. The only downside is that it will cost quite a bit- sometimes as much as $200 or more just for a basic model. Used cribs can be less dependable, but work just the same. If you can find a used crib, don’t hesitate in investigating it.
Some cribs have the option of the side dropping down. This makes it easier for the mother to carry the baby in and out of the bed, without having to reach over the long sides. This type of model is a time saver and much easier on the mother, but be careful when buying one. Some models might have hinges that could pose as a risk to curious babies.
Baby cribs with wheels attached are a must. You will move the baby crib much more often than you would probably think. New parents frequently change the look of the nursery, or change it to a new room entirely. Most new mothers like to have the baby crib in the same room for several weeks or months just to make sure that nothing happens.
Redecorating the baby crib is acceptable- even if you want to paint the baby crib it is fine. You must allow for the paint to dry and air out for several hours before exposing the baby to the crib again. You must also make sure that the paint is not toxic in any shape or form. This means you must exclude paints that have trace amounts of lead.
There are several types of baby mattresses available. In most cases, it won’t matter which mattress you purchase. Try to think ahead and make the baby as comfortable as possible by choosing a mattress that is soft to the touch. That way the baby can sleep peacefully and be well rested. Hard beds aren’t necessarily a threat, since you can simply put soft sheets over them, but it’s a hassle and not worth the effort.
Closing Comments
Your new baby will need a place to call his or her own. A baby crib can be expensive, but also remember that your money goes a long way. Sometimes paying more for a baby crib is the better choice in helping your baby grow up strong and healthy.

Babysitting Agencies: How To Select The Right One
March 3, 2010 by Rashel Dan
Babysitting agencies are a great help. Getting a sitter from an agency will give you some assurance that procedures have been followed to ensure that you have a qualified sitter. Different agencies however have different methods and procedures. You would want to be with an agency that can source the best sitters. How do you know that you are with a good agency?
Source of Sitters
Agency Background – Finding out about an agency’s background is a given. Your next step should be finding our exactly where they get their sitters. It would be good if an agency can get sitters from various sources. After all, this is not a question of discriminating against certain places as sources for sitters. It’s about finding out how they screen their applicants.
Look for an agency that conducts preliminary checks, investigation and screening. This includes verifying a sitter’s real identity and checking for past records of cases of misdemeanor. Determine how an agency conducts its checks.
Agency Requirements for Sitters
What are the agency’s requirements in accepting sitters? Are sitters required to have certificates in first aid courses? In some cases, sitter applicants aren’t required to have these certificates. This is because not every sitter would have the motivation or resources to take these courses. Some agencies however take it upon themselves to provide learning opportunities. A sitter who is well-versed in emergency response is valuable. You would want a sitter who can respond to emergencies and accidents.
Sitter Matching
They should be able to offer you a sitter who can respond specifically to your needs. Your sitter for example should be able to work well with kids who have the same ages as yours. You may also have special requirements such as sitters being able to cook as well. Find out how an agency will help you find the exact sitter that you need. Some agencies will help you interview their sitters so you can find a good match. Others will interview you personally so they can determine your needs and find a sitter who fits.
Agency Guarantees
Ask about some form of guarantee. Products typically have money back guarantees. Agencies on the other hand have guarantees for replacements. This is important because there will be instances when your sitter will be unable to come in. It is also quite possible that you may not be satisfied with your sitter and would like a replacement. Will your agency replace a sitter at no extra cost?
Cost
As with everything else, the price is a crucial factor. How much do you have to pay your agency for a sitter? You may have to pay an initial fee whether or not you finally decide to get a sitter from them. Some agencies have non-refundable initial fees. You then have to pay for a placement fee. This amount covers the costs for agency services include background checks. In some cases you may have to pay extra for transportation costs. Once you have your sitter, you have to pay her an agreed sum every month.
You may have to spend a bit more with an agency than if you try looking for a sitter yourself. If you think about it though, the cost may be worth every penny. Just think about it as paying a large amount for the safety of your kids.

Furnishing Your Kid’s Bedroom

Finding suitable furniture for children can be a complex task. It is more difficult than selecting furniture for the rest of you house, because you also have to please the one who will actually use the furniture – your child. Following are some suggestions to help you choose furnishings for your child’s room.
First of all, a child’s room is not very large. So when you’re picking out furniture, consider pieces that can serve a dual purpose most of the time. Consider headboards that might double as a bookcase, or even storage chests that could double as stairs. Toy chests can serve as storage as well as excellent seats, as well. Bunk beds are a terrific option when you have two children who share a room, or for friends to sleep over. Trundle beds are also a great idea because you can slide the second bed back underneath the main bed, which creates a lot more room for your child to play.
You always want to make sure you look for furniture that’s made well and is sturdy. Children are known to be a bit rough on furniture, so you’ll want to choose pieces that can stand up to a lot of wear and tear. Be sure to check the obvious safety hazards, like making sure the bunk bed safety rails are tight, and that the ladder is well built and secured properly to the bed.
Once you have decided on the necessary furniture, and found a source of safe and sturdy furnishings, then you and your child need to agree on the preferred style. Decide beforehand how long you will be keeping the furniture. Children can quickly grow too large for small furniture. And their tastes can alter considerably as they grow older – especially as they approach the teen years. To avoid having to change furniture repeatedly, bypass furnishings that are obviously intended for young children and will be quickly outgrown.
If you would like to have your child’s room continue the style of the rest of the rooms, there are manufacturers that modified versions of their adult furniture placed in a children’s department. You can also decorate your child’s room with all styles of colorful bedding, pillows, rugs, and toys that both of you love.

Various Certification Types For Midwives
February 25, 2010 by Sharon Christopher
Midwifery is a practice that not all people are aware of . Even before hospitals existed there were already midwives. Every year midwives grow in numbers. Because of rapid growth, many women are discovering the benefits of a midwife.
Today, the training and requirements for midwives are strict. Some midwives are registered while others are considered as professionals. This page would provide you the different levels or certifications for midwives which will help you distinguish which midwife is best.
The first one is called certified midwife or CM. Take note that those who are on this level are not nurses. A certified nurse-midwife and a certified midwife are almost the same. This is a great opportunity for those who was not able to finish college. In other words, this level of certification is more like a license where one has to experience a formal training to become a legal birth practitioner without graduating from college.
The next level is one that requires a bachelor’s degree and a master’s or doctorate, this is called CNM or Certified Nurse-Midwife. She must be a nurse and a midwife as well. Also, she must pass both national and state licensing exams to formally become certified. Hospitals have them as birth assistants.
The CPM or the Certified Professional Midwife is the highest level. The North American Registry of Midwives certifies those who want to be on this level. A written and practical exam is given and you must pass both. Those who have CM and CNM level of certifications are welcome to apply for this. If you want to have the most reliable midwife when giving birth this is the level of certification to look for.
Since midwives come from different training and backgrounds, it’s very important to know the status of midwives before calling them to assist you for home birth. Now you know the level of certification of midwives you will be able to pick the best midwife for your home birth.

How To Have A Baby Boy

Want a baby boy to carry on your family’s name? Got girls, but now you want a baby boy instead? Does your husband need a boy to play ball with?
By putting just three simple, all natural, steps in motion you can effectively raise your odds of conceiving a baby boy from only 50/50 to well over 94%!
The late Dr. Landrum Shettles developed his simple three step method of baby gender selection, which has helped thousands of couples find success in choosing the gender of their babies. Let’s take a look at these three steps in a little more detail, shall we?
1. You’ll need to track your ovulation cycle, to predict your day of ovulation. This is a very important piece of the gender puzzle.
2. Have sex to conceive in the right way. What do I mean by that? Well you’ll want to have sex in positions that will allow for the deep penetration if you are wanting to conceive a baby boy.
3. You’ll want to control your body’s ph, and if wanting a baby boy, you’ll have to lower your ph, creating a more acidic reproductive track. This can be accomplished through diet and/or douching, although, because of a risk of infection I would recommend using douches only under your doctors supervision.
While these techniques are very low-tech and easy to implement you will need to be very diligent in performing them, if you want to succeed in conceiving a baby boy.
Visit my site for more information as well as links to the best guides online to walk you through the process step by step. I would look at it this way: if your serious about adding a baby boy to your family seek all the help you can get, but if you fail in your efforts, well you’ll still have a beautiful little baby girl to love and cherish!

Coping With Morning Sickness With Young Children in the Home
February 13, 2010 by Lisa Smith
Coping with morning sickness is difficult to deal with on its own, but when you also have small children in your home, it can be even more difficult. In order to make it through this time, you will have to discover some ways to keep your kids busy so that you can get rest that you need to feel better.
Not only is morning sickness playing a role right now, but you may also feel emotional ups and downs as well as extreme fatigue. Fatigue is due to the load placed on your body by this new little being as well as the change in your hormones levels. Both of these situations can make dealing with your small children more difficult. Realize that these are normal feelings and if you find yourself especially moody or weepy, that it will pass.
If you absolutely must lay down for awhile, just make sure that your children are nearby. For example, if you want to lay down on your bed, clear a spot for them on the floor in your bedroom so that they can play. Or, if it’s easier for them to play in the family room, take a quick nap in a recliner. For very young children, it’s probably best to go into their bedroom and rest on the floor in order to shut the door and keep them contained.
Next, you’ll need to pick some activities for them to do that can keep them occupied for at least 15 minutes. Some great choices are:
Jigsaw puzzles – Make sure the piece count is appropriate for their age.
Coloring books – get a variety of them and make sure you have enough coloring crayons to keep their interest.
Play-Doh – Although this can be a bit messy, it may be worth it for you to get some rest.
Cars – A bucket full of cars on the floor can keep them busy for awhile.
Books – Read a story if you’re able or let your child read the story to you.
Movies – Rent a couple of children’s movies and let them watch them. Although they may not be able to sit through the entire thing, hopefully it will allow you to relax for awhile.
Coping with morning sickness can be very miserable and trying to care for your children can definitely be a huge challenge. Keeping them busy with various activities while keeping them close to you can help you at least catch a quick nap. If none of these things work, you might want to try to find someone to care for them, even if just for a short time.
You don’t have to suffer. Visit my site http://www.morningsicknessremedies.net to find more Morning Sickness Remedies to help you get relief quickly.
