Five Reasons To Try Adult Cloth Diapers
Many adults who are coping with incontinence rely entirely on disposable products and are hesitant to even give adult cloth diapers and incontinence pads a try. But those who are willing to experiment may discover that reusables have some significant advantages.
Comfort
Fabric, whether cotton, flannel, terry, or gauze, is soft and non-abrasive, making it an excellent choice for anyone with sensitive skin. Fabric naturally wicks moisture away from the body, which diminishes irritation and rashes. In addition, woven material allows for “breathability”, preventing uncomfortable heat buildup. Fabric incontinence pads and diapers also remain intact and in place even when wet, eliminating the breakdown and clumping that can be a problem with disposables.
Economy
The initial cost of reusables may be higher than that of disposables, but they can be more economical in the long run. Even figuring in laundry costs, using cloth products at least part of the time can create significant savings. Though reusable products for adult incontinence can be difficult to find in retail outlets, products in every style, shape, and material can be purchased online and in many cases, quantity purchases are eligible for sizable discounts.
Flexibility
Reusable incontinence products make it easy to custom-tailor your garments to your exact needs. Reusables are available in an extensive variety of shapes, materials, forms, and sizes, ranging from traditional flat or folded diapers to contoured diapers and even pull-ons that look very much like ordinary underwear. Using them in combination (for example, using a flat diaper as a liner under a contoured or pull-on style) allows the wearer to fine-tune the exact amount of protection needed.
Absorbency and leak protection
Reusable products are highly absorbent, and many find that the right layering of cloth products worn under waterproof pants provides an outstanding leak protection they never achieved with disposables, particularly overnight or in other extended-wear situations.
Discreet wearability
For many people, one of the main disadvantages of incontinence underwear is “noticeability”, mainly in the form of unwanted bulk that is hard to disguise and can even make outer clothing fit poorly. In addition, the waterproof outer covering of many disposables can create an audible “rustle” that many find embarrassing and objectionable. Adult cloth diapers and other reusable products can be purchased in styles that are almost indistinguishable from ordinary underwear, and using the right combination of pads and liners minimizes bulk and eliminates rustling.
Adult cloth diapers are just one solution – many people find that adult disposable diapers are also a good choice. Find out more about the types of incontinence products available at Incontinence Pants – what you need to know before you buy.

Snappi Cloth Diaper Fasteners – Pack of 3 (Purple, White, Mint Green)
- Pack of 3 Snappis (1 purple, 1 white, 1 mint green) in size 1 for babies up to about 18 mos
- Easy-to-use, safer, and more reliable alternative to diaper pins.
- Stays securely in place to ensure a comfortable secure fit.
- Easy-to-care-for and can be sterilized in hot water
- Stretchable non-toxic Snappi® hooks into the diaper material to make a strong closure.
Pack of 3 (purple, white, mint green)
The Snappi® is a safer, more reliable, EASY to use fastener for cloth diapers that replaces the nasty diaper pins. The stretchable non-toxic Snappi® hooks into the diaper material to make a strong closure. They work best with diapers that have a loose enough weave for the Snappi® to hook into. (Snappi® terry cloth diapers, cotton pre-folds, and others) Note they do not work well with flannel or other tightly woven diapers.
How to use your Snappi®:
To improve elasticity, stretch your Snappi® fastener a few times before use.
Step 1: Hook left
Step 2: Stretch across and hook right
Step 3: Stretch down and hook center
The Snappi® should go from a “T” shape to a “Y” shape when stretched properly.
Warning: Always use a cover over a Snappi fastener. Keep out of children’s reach when not in use. Do not use a Snappi fastener on toddlers that have the ability to undo or take off their cover/diaper/clothes. Do not use your Snappi for longer than 6 months. Not UV resistant – exposure to the sun can reduce the effectiveness of the Snappi.
CAUTION: Any tear in the Snappi can lead to separation of a piece, presenting a possible choking hazard. Inspect the Snappi before each use and discontinue using immediately if there is any sign of cracking, tearing, breakage or wear of the teeth or any other parts. Do not cut a Snappi as this may cause tearing.

The Benefits of Cloth Diapering
Anyone with young children knows that diapers are a part of your everyday routine. Yet with so many different brands and varieties, how is one able to narrow down the options and choose what is best for you and your family? Although disposable diapers are quick, easy, and overall very convenient for parents on the go…there are also many perks when it comes to deciding to use cloth or reusable diapers.
Everyday you will see a handful of commercials on TV for Pampers, Huggies, or any other major diapering company. Promises of feeling dryer longer as well as a comfortable fit can be convincing enough; who wouldn’t want their child to be comfortable? Cloth diapers offer a comfortable alternative that is more affordable than ever with benefits that outweigh their competitors!
Disposable diapers use chemicals to help create the illusion of a dry diaper even when it is wet. Your baby may not become uncomfortable when seated in a soiled diaper, but they will also be more likely to stay in that dirty diaper longer. If they don’t feel wet or uncomfortable then they are less likely to notify you that it is time for a changing. According to the Earth Easy website, “Diaper rash also increases with disposable diaper use due to allergies to chemicals, poor air flow and longer time spent in wet diapers which feel dry when wet.” Cloth Diapers will feel wet immediately notifying mom and dad that it’s time for a change. The less time baby sits in a soiled diaper, the less likely they are to incur rashes.
Since cloth diapered babies can tell when they are wet and uncomfortable, they become more aware of when they need to go to the restroom. At an earlier age they are able to make the connection between ‘being wet and uncomfortable in cloth diapers and needing to use the bathroom instead.’ This can help make the potty training process easier and less of a shock for some children, as well as has the ability to speed up the process.
It ’s estimated that 10,000 tons of disposable diapers are tossed into landfills each day. They can take up to 500 years to decompose! The manufacture of disposables uses over 1 million metric tons of wood pulp and 75,000 metric tons of plastic each year. Disposables are the diaper of choice for over 80% of North American parents.
Eartheasy.com
Short term disposable diapers appear to be less expensive, especially when purchased in bulk. In case packs, you can get some brands of disposable diapers for only .19 cents each! During the diapering life of each of your children you can change up to 13,000 diapers! That will end up costing you nearly ,470 in disposable diapers just for one child! Multiply that by how many kids you would like to have and you’ve got yourself a small fortune spent on disposable diapers alone.
Cloth diapers come in a variety of brands and styles that enable you to choose what will work best for your family. There are even cloth diapering services that will launder the soiled cloths for you, but this will end up costing about the same as using disposable diapers. If you want to be on the cost effective side, you can purchase “All-in-one” diapers that you only have to buy once and require no additional purchases of liners or various sizes. Although you may end up spending anywhere from 0-0 on cloth diapers depending on the brand, you will only have to spend it one time no matter how many children you have!
Currant Baby likes Bum Genius All in One diapers…they are one size fits all adjustable diapers so all you need is the one size and you are set for your babies diapering life! We have had customers that purchase up to 20 diapers so that they only have to launder them every other day, and also customers who purchase less and don’t mind doing laundry every day. (With young children in the house, you most likely will have a load in the wash everyday anyways!) We also like to recommend that between washes you can pre-soak soiled cloths in a bucket of vinegar water. If you want to save change at the Laundromat, air dry cloth diapers out in the sun. The sun will naturally kill any bacteria or yeast left on the cloths.
Cloth diapers also make great baby registry items because some friends or family could spend less by just purchasing one or two! Then there will always be case packs to purchase for those very generous relatives.
Happy diapering!

I have some gerber pre-folds and want some better diapers, but don’t have the money to buy them. I do, however, have a sewing machine and a serger. What type of fabric is good for making cloth diapers???? Does any one know where to get a pattern for a contoured type diaper?

Use during the day and at night I use little movers
I used to use pampers but then they put the drymax that caused horrible diaper rash for my child. So we quit using them. Then I decided to try huggies snug and dry. They are decent for during the day time but not night time. My child is almost a year and I only put these on during the day because there is no overnight protection. He doesn’t seem to get diaper rash which is good and they are inexpensive during the day. (extra bonus) — At night time we use Huggies little movers and he has been walking up every morning dry for 3 months straight! I even purchased the huggies swimmers for the pool recently and they work great too!

HUGGIES Beats Pampers
From the time my baby was born until she was about 20 pounds, I used the Pampers Swaddlers New Baby. However, Pampers does not make those diapers in Size 3 or bigger sizes. So, I compared the next Pamper in the lineup with Huggies Snug and Dry, and Huggies were far superior at this stage. They are softer, do not leak, are not plasticy feeling like the comparable Pampers.
I will forever stay with Pampers for new babies and Huggies after that.

At 25 cents a diaper you can’t get much cheaper than this. Not to mention its the largest bulk size that I’ve been able to find. My wife loves having the 150 diapers at hand and I love saving all the money, my son however doesn’t really care for them though since he just poops in them!
These are nearly 50% cheaper per diaper than a small pack you would pick up at a drug store or something.

Love the convenience of subscribe & save for diapers
My son will be 3 in a few months and for about a year now we’ve used the size 4, Huggies box of 150 through Subscribe & Save. The box was just the right size to last a month, so we were usually down to the last 5-10 diapers when the next box arrived at our doorstep. So convenient! I was sorry to learn that this particular item is being discontinued (not sure if it’s the size or the availability through subscribe and save) but as it happens we’re far enough in the potty training that I needed to cancel it anyway. Definitely worth doing again if we had another one.

Only diapers we will buy
When I had my daughter I vowed that we would not be above using generic store-brand diapers for her to help cut back on costs. And for a while we did use store brands – several of them (Walmart, Target, CVS, Toys R’ Us), before discovering that none of them were quite as good as the name brands. A few of them were horrible at absorbing liquids, and a few of them just fit very awkwardly, like they were not cut to fit the contours of a baby’s body.
Pampers and Luvs I dislike because they are scented and therefore not great for babies with sensitive skin – they constantly caused diaper rash.
Which brought us to Huggies. Not only do I find the Huggies to have a far-superior fit (they are shaped to the curves of a baby’s legs) but they are also unscented and most importantly super absorbent. They may not be as cheap as the store brands but knowing my daughter is wearing a diaper that absorbs well and fits great is what matters to me. We’ve used Huggies since stage one (including the over-night ones) and have never had any problems with leaks or diaper rash – they are the only diapers I will buy.

As Expected
I bought these for my 9 month old granddaughter. The Huggies perform just as good as Pampers. No complaints with Huggies. I always scan the prices of Pampers, Huggies, and Luvs and buy the best value at the time. Anytime you can find a size 3 diaper for between .18 – .23 each, go for it.

Cloth Diapers- What are all the different types?
So what are cloth diapers? Cloth diapers come in many shapes and forms now and it can become very confusing. There are flat cloth diapers, prefolds, doublers, fitted cloth diapers, cloth diaper covers, all in one cloth diapers, pocket diapers, and Inserts. Almost all of these diapering systems come in a variety of materials such as Hemp, Cotton, Fleece, Bamboo, and Wool. It is no wonder why people reach for disposables as a first option, there is less variety.
Let us start with Flat Cloth Diapers. Flat cloth diapers are simply a square or rectangular piece of material that you can fold to any size to fit around your newborn, baby or toddler. They don’t have any fasteners so either pins or diaper fastener can be used, or a diaper cover will help keep it in place. Flat cloth diapers can be the most cumbersome of cloth diaper types but they are the most economical because they can be used with any age of your child and can continue to be used while potty training at night. These are great to have in your diaper bags because they can also be used as inserts, wipes, burp pads, change pads and any time you may need a cloth around.
Flat Cloth diapers can come in different materials and all will have various degrees of absorption. Keep in mind that cotton flannel flat cloth diapers are found in most department stores but are not the most absorbent so you will need to purchase more as you will be changing them more frequently. I did have these initially for my son but found them difficult to fold properly as he grew. Also as he got stronger it was harder to get everything in place before he’d turn or move. So I bought prefolds next.
Prefolded cloth diapers or Prefolds are a rectangular piece of material that has several layers to it and it is sewn together. Usually the middle section will have an absorbent insert also sewn into place. At Little P Baby Store we carry Organic cotton pre-fold by Bummis. They are a 4×8x4 ply which is a high-quality, absorbent prefold, which means the outer layers have 4 layers of fabric and the middle panel has 8 layers of fabric. Prefolds are easier to use than the flat cloth diapers mainly because you can easily fit them around your baby for a snug fit. Keep in mind, like the Flat cloth diapers, they are best used with a cloth diaper cover. They can also be fastened with pins or diaper fasteners. Regardless of the name of the prefold, Chinese prefolds, Indian prefolds, or others, they all have the same idea but remember the uniqueness is in the materials that are used and that relates to the absorbency. We carry the highest-quality absorbent prefolds that are unbleached as bleaching can damage the fibers. Also remember that these require a cloth diaper cover.
Fitted cloth diapers are named because they are meant to fit around your baby or toddler and don’t require any folding. One of the benefits of fitted cloth diapers is their ease of use. They will come with either snaps or Velcro for a fast and easy diaper change. Most brands will have elastic around the legs and waist to contain any mess. For most parents fitted cloth diapers are the easiest to use but they do still require a separate diaper cover. They provide a great fit for your child at that age, but you will need to buy different sizes as your child grows. There is a small variety at one size fits all options for fitted cloth diapers. At Little P Baby Store we carry 4 brands of fitted cloth diapers such as Bambineo Bamboo, Bamboozle Bamboo, Bamboo Baby and Baby Milano fitted cloth diaper. Bamboo is a naturally antibacterial and anti-allergic product that is easily cultivated and thrives without the use of fertilizers or pesticides. It does not drain the soil’s nutrients and does not require monoculture farming. It is gorgeously soft, has healing properties and is 70 to 80% more absorbent than cotton.
The next type of cloth diaper is the pocket cloth diaper, such as the BumGenius 3.0. This diapering type comes with an inside pocket that you can insert padding, has a waterproof outer layer and closures. They are extremely easy to use. Some times these are mistake for all-in-one diapers but they are close in structure. With the pocket diaper you insert a padded material into the pocket and then place them on your baby. The diaper cover itself is sewn to the inner fleece layer so that when your baby urinates the moisture is pulled into the absorbed insert and away from your baby. These are becoming extremely popular due to the capabilities of keeping moisture away from the baby, unlike the first few listed types of cloth diapers. Remember to purchase your inserts when looking at pocket cloth diapers and the same rule applies the different materials for inserts will relate to the absorbency so try to choose inserts that are layered if cotton or more absorbent types like Bamboo or Terry cloth.
So the final type of cloth diapers is the All-in-one (AIO) diaper. They are exactly what you would expect, they have it all; inner absorbent core, waterproof cover, front closure, snug fit around the legs and waist. No need to folding, pinning, stuffing or wrapping. These diapers are more expensive because they are all combined in one but they are still cheaper than disposables. We have a few different varieties to choose from; Indisposables, Bamboo Baby All-in-one, and Snug to Fit by Dri-Line.
Cloth diaper covers are unique in that they can be reused a few times before needing to be washed, if they are not soiled or have a smell. Cloth diaper covers can come with Velcro or snap closures, such as Baby Milano cloth diaper covers, Bummis Super Brite or Bummis Super Whisper wrap. These covers can come in different fabrics such as Vinyl (PVC), Polyurethane Laminate (PUL), and Nylon. Vinyl is no longer recommended as it will not hold up to washing and they can leak into your child’s skin. PUL is a laminate that is applied over either polyester or cotton to make the cover waterproof. They are machine washable and can be dried. They will withstand the test of time and can be used for many years. Nylon cloth diapers are similar to PUL but should not go in the drier. Both of these are a much better alternative to Vinyl due to its breathable and softer qualities.
I hope this was able to answer some questions about the different types of cloth diapering systems. Next part of the series will cover “HOW DO I CHOOSE?”
I am a first time mom that loves all things natural and organic. I have searched for the past few years for some of the coolest products and am hoping that through my website that I can provide people with information that will help our little ones grow up healthy and safe.

| Question by Ari: How do I get started using cloth diapers?
I am considering cloth diapers but know nothing about using them. How many diapers will I need to start with for a newborn? What other accessory items will I need to start with? What is the initial cost? Is a diaper service necessary or is washing them yourself simple enough? Is there a brand or style of diaper you have had luck with? Any tips at all will be very much appreciated!

I bought the Target brand plain white towelling nappies. The ones you have to fold yourself.
I have 3 dozen per child. Costs about a pack in Australia.
I also bought about 6 packs of nappy pins, I was forever loosing them. Plus a couple packets of nappy liners (if you are Australian, get the Wollies brand ones, super strong!!)
I fold them kite style.
I also wash them myself. I have 2 nappy buckets filled with boiling hot water, and a cup of pure soap.
Get 2 different colours, so you know where your putting what. I put soild in one, wee in the other.
I leave to soak in there over 24 hour period. Then chuck them into the washing machine, and rinse.
The wash with a cup of lemon juice, to keep the smelling lovely.
For the stained ones. A couple of hours in a bucket of boiling water and bleach does the trick. Then wash with tomorrows nappies.

Huggies vs. Pampers.

Huggies. Suck. They are for skinny babies with no ass. My baby is fat and has a big ass. No thanks Huggies.

Customer Review:
We love Huggies! When my kiddo was smaller Huggies seemed to leak on him and the fit wasn’t right but when he hit a size 4 diaper, I like Huggies now as much as, if not more than Pampers and Luvs. They all work for him but there is something about the fit of the Huggies I like more now! A basic diaper – it isn’t super soft but works well for the everyday normal routine. I would buy again!

The best for your money
I love buying on Amazon.com. It saves me time and its very convientent. I am able to get 60 extra diapers for only 6.00 dollars more. Huggies have always been my favorite. I have used them with all my 3 kids. The work the best for me.

Best deal
