In the great green room
There was a telephone
And a red balloon
And a picture of -

The cow jumping over the moon
And there were three little bears sitting on chairs

And two little kittens
And a pair of mittens
And a little toyhouse
And a young mouse

And a comb and a brush and a bowl full of mush
And a quiet old lady whispering hush

Goodnight room
Goodnight moon
Goodnight cow jumping over the moon
Goodnight light and the red balloon
Goodnight bears
Goodnight chairs

Goodnight kittens
And goodnight mittens
Goodnight clocks and goodnight socks
Goodnight little house and goodnight mouse
Goodnight comb and goodnight brush
Goodnight nobody, goodnight mush
And goodnight to the old lady whispering “hush”

Goonight stars
Goodnight air
Goodnight noises everywhere …..

The Going-To-Bed Book
by filigran

Question by interrogatory: I am going to bed. I am going to read a book about the fall of Constantinople to the Turks….?
…What’s your bed time story
If you read in bed, what do you read in bed? I usually read a biography or a history book. If you wake up in the middle of the night what do you do to get back to sleep? Do you read, watch TV, play a game??? What?

I read mystery or history. Sometimes I do a sudoku puzzle. I don’t turn on the TV unless I don’t want to go to sleep.

I am trying to find a children’s book I read over a decade ago. Can you help?

Question by hoonoki: I am trying to find a children’s book I read over a decade ago. Can you help?
The problem is that I remember so little of the book that I can’t even search it. I know it was published before 1995, and is possibly much older. All I have is a vague memory of a village, a large old tree, and I think some kind of magical element. Maybe a magician. The village might be wrong. It’s sort of a quiet book. If you have any ideas, please let me know!

I don’t think so, what with copyright and all. It’s still in print, you know. But your local public library has it, almost certainly. And if you know any parents of small children, they might lend one to you. (Or recite it to you — I know I can still recite most of it, and my youngest is 29!)

Question by babe: Has anyone read the story Make Way for Ducklings?
Why do you think this book has endured as a favorite for over 50 years?

Best answer:

Answer by Angelia
I haven’t read it since I was a little kid, but I remember thinking it was an awesome book. As a kid, I thought it was cool to read about a family of ducks. I seem to recall that the pictures were pretty cool too :)

When the man with the yellow hat takes George camping, George is very excited. There is so much to do at the campsite—pitching a tent, gathering water, meeting fellow campers—that George hardly knows where to begin (he only hopes the day will end with a roasted marshmallow!). When George’s knack for unintentional mischief gets him lost deep in the woods, George is scared . . . and being sprayed by a skunk only adds to the trouble. But George puts on a brave face, and he ends up saving the day when he puts out a small fire that could have endangered the forest.
