Question by MC: What words would you use to describe KW from Where the Wild Things Are?
I’m writing a short story, and I’m kind of inspired by KW from Where the Wild Things Are. Can you tell me any words that would describe her personality? Her voice? She reminds me of a lot of people I know, but I can’t think of how to describe her.

-Thanks

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
by familymwr

Question by Bear Crap: What would you have said during this bear/moose encounter?

What would you have said to a group of little girls in the following situation?
The wife and I had 5 little girls in my crew cab truck here in Alaska, taking a drive in the mountains (ages 8 to 12) to view wildlife. We had a mother moose walking across a forest service road with her calf when a brown bear grabbed the little calf and drug it into the brush. We could see the calf struggle and hear it’s cries of distress. Momma moose wanted no part of Mr. Bear and left.
Some of the girls were city girls others country girls. Some begged me to stop the bear. I explained it was just nature in action and this is natural and I could not stop the bear from doing what was natural for him.

What would you have told them?

Thanks for the good answers.
They gave me some good ideas.
Cant pick best answer, so its up for a vote.

First i’d forget i had little girls in the truck with me and my first response would be. “Holy s#$ t that was cool” followed by taking pictures. Then the whole thats how nature works speech that you gave. It’s good that they learn that nature isn’t a Disney movie. Might have also added something about how now that bears cubs will be fed and won’t die(regardless of whether it was male or female). To a little girl bear cub>moose calf on the cuteness meter.

Which do you think would win in a fight: panda bear, polar bear, grizzly bear, brown bear, or kodiak bear?

Question by xxrunner2010xx: Which do you think would win in a fight: panda bear, polar bear, grizzly bear, brown bear, or kodiak bear?
This question was raised in one of my biology classes and I was curious to see what you all thought. My teacher has the polar bear winning but most of the students side with the kodiak bear.

Best answer:

Answer by Brian L
Well, both the Kodiak and Grizzly ares subspecies of brown bears. The kodiak is slightly larger – usually about 20-30 kg heavier.

Grizzly bears tend to be ill-tempered, but I don’t know about the kodiaks. So I’d say the Kodiak wins based on size. The polar bear? Certainly not.

Why would a male swan be agressive towards a female duck and her ducklings?

Question by freshlifelove: Why would a male swan be agressive towards a female duck and her ducklings?
I went to a lake today and saw a beautiful swan.

Nearby was a small black bird in the water with a red bill, with 3 babies.
The swan was oblivious to them being there.

But then a mother duck and about 8 ducklings swam towards us and the swan swam towards them in a threatening way making them stay by the river bank. Whenever they advanced to the middle of the lake the swan would swim quickly towards them to force them back.

The ducklings and mother then started swimming to the other side of the lake and the swan swam towards them really agressively. It really looked like it was going to try and kill one of the ducklings.
I threw pebbles to distract it and only when one hit it lightly on the tail did it retreat and go in the opposite direction. I really was concerned for the safety of the ducklings.

Then having walked around the lake I saw another swan, but it was sitting on a massive nest, obviously the other swans partner.

I was completely puzzled why the swan would act like that towards the ducklings.

Does anyone know why this may have been?

X

Because maybe the male swan is an ugly duckling.
